Did anyone ever play the board game edition?

Yep! We had the DK board game and Frogger as well, and stupidly about 20 years back I told my mom to toss them. <P>

If I remember right, Donkey Kong had a rubber-band activated barrel dispenser.

Always loved the original arcade game. I was always disappointed when I would play a home version and the 4th stage was missing. Finally got that stage for me when Club Nintendo offered the complete version. Played that and enjoyed it. A close second for me was Jr.

DK in the arcade was my favorite along with the Atari 800 version. Much later John Champeau made an awesome port called Champ Kong for the PC running DOS.

This mirrors my thoughts exactly. Donkey Kong is in my all time top five favorite arcade games (Mr. Do, Popeye, Galaxian and Phoenix are the other four) and I was going to mention that the Atari 8-bit port is my favorite. I forgot about the Champ Games but man are all those excellent. I'll have to load Dosbox and revisit all of their great ports.

Donkey Kong (aka dk 94) for gameboy is my favorite of all. Mario vs do for GBA was nice too but nothing came close to do 94 for me. I still play to this day, and its one of the best displays of what the underutilized super gameboy could do.

Too many choices, can't decide. I really can't put something like the original Donkey Kong up against a game like Donkey Kong Country as they're nothing alike, kind of both independent franchises. Remove DKC/Land stuff though then I'd say the original or the Gameboy 94 one since it has that game to start, then far more.
