ewing92
Well, well, well ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for...... http://www.gamespot.com/news/6167725.html?tag=nl.e576 Yes it does seem likely this will happen, and i'm so glad that Sony is recognizing that they need to do this. So, looks like I'll be able to pick one of these babies up next Christmas . I didn't say what was in the link so the anticipation can grow oh screw it Edited March 29, 2007 by ewing92
Lemmi
for Sony to maintain its role as a juggernaut in the gaming business is a price cut for its PlayStation 3 this comment needs a "NO DUH" EDIT sorry ewing92 i didnt mean to ruin it for you, i dont like suspense Edited March 30, 2007 by Lemmi
spacecadet
Eh... it's one analyst saying he thinks a price cut is "possible" and "wouldn't hurt Sony's strategy". Doesn't sound like much of a prediction to me.

Doesn't sound like much of a prediction to me. oh but that's where your wrong, that's where your way wrong. Did you read the words "price cut possible this year"and "believes Sony may lower costs"? Yup, that's enough of an answer for me right there No problem Lemmi, Edited March 30, 2007 by ewing92
Lauren Tyler
The odds of Sony doing that are very unlikely in my opinion. In fact, if they reduce the price by even a penny it'll be a miracle. Their arrogance is way bigger than we think.
MCHufnagel
MS has given Sony another reason not to lower prices with their Elite 360. But they might lower prices anyway seeing that a lower price point system (Wii) is killing everything else right now.
Gregory DG
I'd be surprised if Sont dropped the price this soon. From what I've read they think the PS3 is a sell-out everywhere. So why lower the price? BTW, I saw 8 PS3's at EB today. I asked the clerk and he said they don't sell. But the Wii is impossible to get. Oh, and he also said he wanted to collect old video game systems and mentioned the Jaguar. I, of course, had to mention I had one with BattleSphere. Emehr
Only $100? That still makes it too rich for my blood... (I can buy a lot of Wii games for $500! ) Edited March 30, 2007 by Emehr
ewing92
Ohhhh, and now, Sony has a "unofficial" system(as in it might not see the light of day) called the Playstation 3 Elite, "Cool! I can't wait to buy one! The PS3 already made me sell my car, now they want me to pay an extra $100 on top of that?" I seriously thought it was a joke the first time i heard it, then i heard it from two different sources, i highly, highly doubt that Sony would release a PS3Elite, no, not gonna happen. And it was funny, when they were talking about it, they showed clips of the silver PS3, wowwww, a silver one, when Sony first showed that they had 3 different colors, i thought, "cool, now mine can be unique when i buy it, it'll be a different color". Well, come launch day, i knew that wasn't gonna happen, but now they make it sound all cool and everything, even though what they're saying is going directly against their word. <---------Silver PS3 Edited March 30, 2007 by ewing92
Hyper_Eye
MS has given Sony another reason not to lower prices with their Elite 360. I keep seeing people say this and I still don't see the logic in it. Because MS is releasing their "elite" system to cater to media buffs doesn't mean you can't obtain a system at the price point it is already at. Most people are not going to be interested in the "elite" system because it doesn't offer anything over the previous system that the average consumer cares about. HDMI is aimed specifically at people that want to hook it up to a hdtv with the capability and the desire to play their movies in 1080p (games can already be played at 1080p over component. Blame the FCC for this one.) The bigger hdd is geared towards people that want to download high def movies. I have no interest in downloading movies as I prefer to own my movies on hard media and most gamers won't care about this either. The current system offers plenty of space to save games and download from XBLA. As such most people are going to ignore the elite system and they are not who MS is aiming it at. Those people are still going to look at the 360 and see it as the more affordable console while offering something that is relatively equal in graphics and audio. The system also has more games available and with more game for the buck with platinum hits already on the shelf. Also, the elite system is going to be a limited time system from what I understand. The elite system will become the premium (without the black case) at some point. Then you can get the same thing for the current premium price (MS wouldn't dare raise the price.) People seem to forget that the hardcore gamer is a small piece of the market. These companies want the average gamer/consumer and those gamers don't care about all this hd media (yet.) They want the same thing they have always wanted out of a console and that is good games at a good price. These are the people that are going to be standing in the gaming aisle playing a game on the demo system and looking at the price tags without knowing a whole lot about the system. They are going to base their choice on what looks appealing, fits their budget, and, of course, on previous experience with a company. You decide what you think that will be for the average consumer. I think the 360 has proven itself so far. The PS3 hasn't had time to show what it will offer the average consumer but people notice all the bad press. I am yet to talk to an average gamer that felt the PS3 was the next console to own. I have heard a lot of skepticism. I would like to say that the system they showed the most interest in was the 360 (though most are interested in it.) Most people I talk to right now are completely focused on the Wii and where they can get one. Of course, this is a very finicky market and minds change quickly. In a few months the tables could be completely turned.
Video
MS has given Sony another reason not to lower prices with their Elite 360. I keep seeing people say this and I still don't see the logic in it. Because MS is releasing their "elite" system to cater to media buffs doesn't mean you can't obtain a system at the price point it is already at. Yeah, just like you can still by the $300 'core' X-Box 360 Well, maybe you can, somewhere. But I haven't seen one in stores since a few months after launch, which is a good thing, since haveing two different systems was a stupid Idea from the get go. Personally, it won't help Sony to drop the Price of the PS3 by only $100, cause even the 'elite' 360 will still cost less, and the current one will still cost more than $100 less, and if microsoft wanted to, it could drop IT'S system price by say $100 and all of a sudden, Son'sy back to square 1. Albert
This is pure speculation by an "analyst", nothing more than that. Of course Sony is trying to cost-reduce the PS3, every console manufacturer does that. I would not count on a retail price reduction anytime soon. ..Al
AtariJr
its been over a year , and the 360 hasnt gone down right? i think it would look bad if they reduced thier price. then again, if thier ps3 60 hd was the same price as thier "elite" system if could try to pass itself off as the better value.
