DonutCity
Can I use a "custom" 5 pin DIN conector to go from my Atari 800 to the video/audio inputs of my TV (you know - 5 pin DIN to RCA)?? And if so, how much will the picture improve?
Rybags
Yes. "Improvement" will depend on the machine. Video quality got worse with the XL and just progressed downwards. But composite on an XE should look at least as good as RF from a 400/800.
classics
Yes you can, it will greatly improve your picture. Steve
charliecron
Well that sounds like your standard Atari composite output, halfway between the quality of rf and seperate chroma/luma. Most definatley worth the trouble of obtaining the cable. But nothing custom about it...
Urchlay
The 800's video output is beautiful with s-video (chroma/luma), better than any other Atari I've seen... definitely worth doing. If you want to make your own cable, you can use a 5-pin DIN connector from an old PC keyboard for the Atari end of the cable (the older AT style connector, not the PS/2 type... you can buy old keyboards for next to nothing if you know where to look). +swlovinist
I have an S-video cable for I do believe my 600. I have heard on this post that the XL and beyond have poor video out. What is the best video out for an XEGS? Any help would be great, thanks!

The best video for an unmodified XEGS is composite, which looks OK but not great. You might want to try composite and see if it's good enough for you, before you start on the s-video mod.
