mimo
dummies guide please, I have got the utility installed, and .cas files to convert. just don't know how to make it work
deathtrappomegranate
Simplest way: have the .cas file in the same directory as the program. Run the program; enter the name of the .cas file; type "Y" to confirm, then "N" for diagnostics, and press enter for all the other options. Oh, and try checking out the readme file for the program, too

deathtrappomegranate
I don't remember seeing that error message. Is it a working .cas file? Do you have the file open in another program or something?
mimo
not running elsewhere. I have tried a few images from Atarimania and they all give the same message. Is there only one version of cas2wav?
mimo
sorry, the error message is "Cannot open cassette image file" Enter ^Z or hit Control Z to terminate
deathtrappomegranate
Can you PM me the .cas file?
Rybags
Just run the program from the same directory as the .CAS file. When it asks for the filename, you have to enter the whole filename including the .CAS extension.
deathtrappomegranate
When it asks for the filename, you have to enter the whole filename including the .CAS extension. This might well be the problem, because that error message seems to indicate a non-existent file.

Rybags
Why would you want a WAV file? The program generates them. If you want CAS files to try out, just do a small BASIC program then CSAVE it. Maybe your Cas2Wav program is corrupt - try this one: cas2wav.zip
mimo
Why would you want a WAV file? The program generates them. because I cant get it to make a WAV file, and I want to make some cassettes for a mate Maybe your Cas2Wav program is corrupt - try this one: cas2wav.zip nope, tried this one and get the same error, maybe it is just my POS laptop
Rybags
Which OS is it? Maybe try opening a command line window and running it from that.
Rybags
Ah. I think I've worked out the problem. It doesn't allow filenames > 8 characters. I earlier tried a filename with an embedded space and it worked, so I just assumed long filenames would too. Just rename and truncate the filename of the .CAS file e.g. "BALLBLAZ.CAS" instead of "BALLBLAZER.CAS". Rybags
From experience, I've found that using about 65% volume level will get best results, although that was just normal audio stuff. You can use the "BALLBL~1.CAS" trick to get it to recognise longer filenames, although the resultant WAV will have the short-form name too. mimo
After all this messing around, the 410 has just broken the cassette door hinge has snapped off :!:

If someone would recompile cas2wav and wav2cas as Windows console apps, they would support long filenames just fine... the cas2wav.exe and wav2cas.exe floating around out there now are DOS apps.
