I didn't read anything about it being choppy, what did concern me was the load times on the PS3 version. Especially as the game progresses....30 seconds to a minute load times that don't exist on the PC or 360 version. What's up with that?

Unfortunately, the PS3 version takes a number of hits when it comes to presentation. Part of the problem is that it's built around a two-year-old PC game, so it's already looking very dated by the glossy, state-of-the-art standards of 2007. However, that doesn't explain the PS3 version's other issues. First of all, F.E.A.R. looks washed out and fuzzy on the PS3. This is in contrast to the sharpness and crispness of the PC and Xbox 360 versions. The lighting and shadowing effects aren't as atmospheric on the PS3 version, either. To top it all off, the PS3 version suffers from tediously long load times and an erratic frame rate that's noticeable even when there's not a lot of action onscreen. At least the audio in F.E.A.R. is outstanding. In a game that's all about making you afraid of the dark, it's often the little noises that send you spinning around, ready to blast whatever it is that made the sound. Combat also sounds glorious. You can hear almost every single noise in a firefight, such as glass shattering apart, spent brass cartridges hitting the floor, and the thud of explosions. The voice acting is generally good, though the mixing could be better, as it's sometimes hard to hear the dialogue over everything else.

F.E.A.R. provides a decent shooting experience on the PS3, but it's inferior to the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. There's still plenty of great action and spooky moments, but the PS3 version often feels like a port that hasn't been optimized. And while F.E.A.R. is still a good action game, it doesn't live up to its potential on the PS3.

And therein lies the rub. As much fun as F.E.A.R. is, it's never going to live up to the expectation cross-platform users have in their heads. Simply put, the PS3 doesn't hold a candle to the visuals found in the Xbox 360 version -- especially considering the handful of bugs that have dead soldiers getting stuck in walls and twitching on the floor. The detailed environments and clear draw distances aren't found on PS3. If you had never seen the other versions of F.E.A.R., you still wouldn't be impressed with the PS3's graphics, but compared to the PC and 360, this version is graphically dead in the water.

This last one from someone with a clear bias for PS3:

But in other respects the PS3 version actually fares worse than the PC original. Most seriously, the textures seem to have either taken a drop in resolution or are suffering from some weird blur effect, because up-close they’re a total mess. While even the Xbox 360 version looked sharp and clear, the PS3 version is F.E.A.R. through a pair of dirty spectacles, looking much as it would if you had played the PC version with the graphics options dialled down. The game also seems full of weird glitches, such as twitching corpses and chunks of broken scenery that refuse to settle on the ground. Hardly next-generation console stuff. If you wanted a game to show off your PS3 and make your 360 and PC owning mates grind their teeth in envy, then F.E.A.R. will only turn you into a laughing stock.

Well you read wrong, it is nicely done, rent it, try it out.

All those reviews are consistent with what everyone said here. Even the last reviewer who has an obvious bias admits the issues evident in this port of F.E.A.R. I would understand if one reviewer had stated these things with some dislike for the PS3 but all these reviewers did and I didn't even pick and choose. These were simply the first three I found in the google search. I would have to believe that you never played the PC or XBox 360 versions of this game which were both incredibly sharp and smooth. One thing that all those reviews makes sure to mention though is the fantastic audio.
