Lumpy01
Has anybody ever try using the 5200 video mod board found at 8bitdomain.com in an 8-bit Atari computer, preferably and 800XL? Since the hardware is virtually identical, couldn't this work?
+Mitch
Why? The Atari 8-bit computers already have it built in, you don't need an extra board, just the right cable. Mitch
Rybags
I don't see why it shouldn't work, although clearance might be an issue. Maybe it would give better quality video since it's getting a direct feed from GTIA. But, it is replicating something that is already there - and adding chroma to XLs monitor ports that don't have it is usually a simple job. Urchlay
It might be worth doing this to a 1200XL. The video quality of an unmodified 1200XL is abysmal, and doesn't get much better if you add a chroma wire. The Clearpic or Supervideo mods are just about mandatory... maybe the 8bitdomain 5200 mod would give even better quality? Or maybe it'd be easier to install, for us solder-challenged individuals? classics
I've built a similar gtia plug in module and it worked as well in my 1200xl as it did in the 5200 I built it in originally. Steve
