Prototype value questions

So I just pulled a few prototypes out of an auction lot, and was curious to how the value is determined.

Would the prototype of one of the early common games be worth more than one from a newer, hard-to-find game due to their age? The three Atari protos I have are all dated to early 1980, and include Maze Craze, Championship Soccer and "Head On", which appears to be the pre-release name for Dodge 'Em.

I also pulled a Data Age cart with a bright orange label that says "New Release" and dated in '83. It turns out to be Frankenstein's Monster, complete with prerelease instructions. Would this be considered a prototype, or just a very unique cart? Have these been seen before? With instructions?

Thank you in advance.

Wow, someone besides Wonder007 was able to get proto's. That is, if Wonder007 hasn't already bought them from you. ;)

How about some pictures?

If you can't figure out which ones they are, you are not worthy. :P

Hell, I would have bid on that. I should start checking lots more carefully but who has time for that.

Earlier this year, my job changed when a client requested me full-time. Unfortunately, now I have nearly half of my day waiting for people, but at least I can walk to work now! While I wait, I search *thousands* of Atari auctions for poorly-advertised gems such as these.

And CPUWIZ, how did you know without you beating me on the auction?

(I can't believe I manually beat a sniper program! woohoo!)

Now, to the pics...

pre-release Frankensteins Monster

Then the Atari three... these are heavy li'l suckas.

and

Now if someone can tell me how to do a dump of the data, I'd be more than happy to provide that as well.

Thanks again to all who responded for their help.

Thanks for the pics, they look cool :)

As far as I know CPUWIZ doesn't collect prototypes so thats probably why he didn't bid? but I could be wrong. Thanks God he's not a re seller, CPUWIZ see's all :D

Well now this is interesting. It looks like at one point Atari was considering licensing the rights to Head On from Sega/Gremlin before just cloning it. Very interesting indeed...

Well if you're handy and have an EPROM reader you can do it yourself (just crack the case, and pop out the chips). However since most people don't have EPROM readers, you'll probably have to send it to someone to have it dumped. I can do this for you if you'd like, as I do it all the time. Alternatively, I can recommend any number of other AA members who can dump it for you if any of them are closer to your location.
