Odyssey^2 Question

Hi all,

 

I just got my first O^2, but it does not have the TV Game Switch. I am running it through the one for my Channel-F, but that's not a permanent solution because the Channel-F did not support sound.

 

So, does anyone know of a compatible switch that I can buy?

The O2's cable uses a funky plug, but if you open up the case you can easily replace it with a normal RCA male-male cable.

SOME O2's have cords with funky plugs.

 

My Odysseys have regular RCA cords, which will fit almost every switchbox known to man. Some Odyssey 2 systems use a proprietary RF cord and switchbox, which are the same ones found in the Odyssey pong games. If you have one of these (doesn't sound like you do), you need one of these Odyssey pong switchboxes. They're tough to find individually, so you might just have to get a cheap Odyssey 300 or something. Or, more easily, just swap out the cord for a standard one, like Supercat said.

 

But, if yours fits a Fairchild switchbox, it'll fit all standard switchboxes. Or, you can get an RCA-Coax adapter and go straight into your television set. The picture's a lot better, but you have to replace it with the antenna every time you want to watch t.v., unless you go through a VCR or something. You can get these adapters here on AtariAge or (if you must) at RadioShack. Radioshack also carried brand new cable-ready switchboxes, but I don't know if they do anymore.

 

You can't get sound from your Odyssey 2 when using a Fairchild switchbox? It should be the same as any other switchbox, except maybe different-looking...

Actually, if your O2 has one of those proprietary video cables, all you have to do is use one of the older RCA cables (say for instance, the one that came with the 7800), NOT one of the newer ones, and replace the cable. It's easy, actually. Just open up the system, pull out the old plug on the top right of the case, and pop the new plug in. It shoudl work just fine. Mine works great now that I did that. Now, if I can just get those damn joysticks working again...

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up just buying a new TV/Game Switch at Fry's Electronics for $0.50 and it works great.
