+atari2600land
I just got Hydra today and I think it's a lot like RoadBlasters, with the shooting of cars/boats, fuel collecting, etc. (although I've never played the Lynx RoadBlasters, I have played the NES version. BTW, I'm asking for it, Ms. Pac-Man and Checkered Flag in the wanted forum). What are your thoughts on the two games? Which is better?
Atari5200
i own both games and Roadblasters is better in my opinion. Hydra takes Roadblasters to the next level though with purchasable power ups, jumping and the like, but I've found Hydra to be somewhat frustrating as it seems like the collision detection is off, you'll see soon enough what I'm talking about, sometimes it's pretty hard to kill some of the things, seems like the bullets go right through them, and the helicopters, forget about it. Sometimes it seems near impossible to get around those things without dieing. But all in all, Hydra is still a good game, but in my opinion, Roadblasters is much better.

What is the consequences of dying in Hydra, either by being shot or crashing? Besides losing your weapon do you lose any fuel? Or you just lose fuel, payload and some time? The manual makes no mention of consequences other than losing your payload. It says you must complete each section without crashing. But you can crash and still complete the segment.
sirlynxalot
Isn't it a timed game? If you run out of time you have to use a continue to play the level again from the beginning? I don't think the fuel system is as punishing as in road blasters.
JagChris
No. The only time and real consequence you seem to have is running out of fuel.
JagChris
In Hydra it actually seems preferable to get killed if you lose the package you're carrying and miss picking it back up again and the black shadow boat or whatever that snatched it gets away from you for whatever reason. If you get yourself killed the shadow boat that is carrying your package that you need to recover pops back up in front of you again giving you another chance to grab it.
