vdub_bobby
Leave the arcade and hit the skies! It's time to play Zanac A.I.! Post a score and let's get this thing rolling! Please post any tips you may have - best tip gets 1 bonus point! Note: no continuing, no codes, and, apparently, you can warp backwards - so no endless backwards warping, please - that would be considered leeching. And if anyone has a link to the manual, please post it. This week's competition ends next Tuesday (July 17) morning at approximately 8:00 am PST. This week's standings: 412,680 keilbaca (+10 pts) 348,240 scooby105 (+8 pts + 1 pt for best tip) 147,650 8th lutz (+6 pts) 74,940 LarcenTyler (+4 pts) 72,890 vdub_bobby (+2 pts) Twin Galaxies High Scores None. Overall standings: 1. vdub_bobby (95 pts) 2. 8th lutz (80 pts) 3. gdement (66 pts) 4. LarcenTyler (61 pts) 5. rjchamp3 (54 pts) 6. bust3dstr8 (49 pts) 7. arch_8ngel (34 pts) 8. MetalSlime23 (25 pts) 9. Cybergoth (20 pts) 10. Jibbajaba (16 pts) 11. duncantoml (10 pts) 12. kevincal (9 pts) 13. Slayer (8 pts) Game Info Created by Pony Canyon in 1986. Other platforms: MSX, Palm OS. Sequels/spinoffs: Zanac EX (MSX - 1986), Zanac X Zanac (Playstation - 2001) Tips scooby105: The 2 and 6 are the sweet power-ups. 2 provides a nice shield to hang out at the bottom of the screen and 6 allows you to destroy everything on the screen. keilbaca
Normally I dont play, but I love my vertical shooters, I couldn't pass on this. I did a quick run.

bubufubu
37,710,750 Part 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDEXA7TZHgc Part 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc4236SY23M This is my favorite shooter! I followed the Twin Galaxies rules for this run. You are allowed to use the backwards warps, but only once each. And you are allowed to farm the bosses and mid-bosses for points because there's a timer and the game doesn't progress until you either destroy the boss or the timer runs out.
DonPedro
That's an insane score, bubufubu! If you're interested in participating in other High Score Clubs, we're currently playing another shoot em up developed by Compile in the TG16/PC Engine CD HSC - Spriggan. bubufubu
Thanks, DonPedro. I have a run where I maxed out the score, but it abuses the backwards warps so that's a no-go on here. I posted a few scores on the Sega Master System thread, but things seem to be pretty quiet around there. As far as TG16/PC Engine CD goes, I don't have that emulator and I'm not sure I'd be able to download it if I found one. I've never played Spriggan before. Just watched some footage of it on Youtube and it looks like it could be my kind of shooter. No surprise that Compile developed it. I'd be happy to take on any shooter from the eras I grew up in as long as they're not bullet hell games. But it looks like Spriggan won't be happening anytime soon. I appreciate the comment and I'll try to remember your recommendation. Cheers.
bubufubu
50,587,620 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T90G1QrsA8A Freeplay score update. No backwards warp abuse here. This was moreso an exhibition of a neat, but difficult, trick you can pull off on the final boss.
