EricDeLee
So... are you looking forward to buying this? I'll grab a copy as soon as I can more than likely. I'm pretty interested in this game with its similarities to God of War. Even though it appears to be a button masher... I should enjoy it like the GoW series. I hope. Mendon
Played the demo and wasn't that impressed. Seemed like a "involved" button masher; mash buttons but some combo's and attacks/defenses much be learned and practiced. One thing I didn't like about the demo was no JUMP button..... really seemed strange not to have one. For myself, the vast majority of released games this year don't fall into the "must buy upon release" category but instead fall into the "I'll rent it from GameFly first and if I like it I'll buy it" category. HS falls into this "rent first" category. Maybe I'm getting more selective in my old age. Mendon Edited September 12, 2007 by Mendon
Gabriel
The demo convinced me to skip Heavenly Sword. I'm just a Dynasty Warriors whore, so several things in Heavenly Sword rubbed me the wrong way. I felt the different stances mucked up the button mashing vibe. I didn't like the fact there was only one character to play, and didn't think her design was impressive to boot. The general look of the game didn't click with me either. EricDeLee
You play a different character in the game....
Gabriel
You play a different character in the game.... I was unaware you could play anyone other than the redhead. Still, 2 or 3 versus the Dynasty Warriors minimum of a dozen just doesn't do it for me. I view these games as descendants of scrolling brawlers, so the ability to play 2 player simultaneous is a big part of the attraction. As far as I know, the game is one player only. zeropolis79
If it is the Heavenly Sword I saw tested and behind the scenes of footage on a UK game show, I'd buy it if I had a PS3.. It looked good..
liveinabin
I must say, I balked at the footage I saw. It's pretty much ticking all the stereotype boxes to appeal to the Playstation target demographic, isn't it? War and tits. great
Tempest
War and tits. You act like there's something wrong with that. Tempest
dalton4life
The demo seemed like a mix of God of War and Dynasty Warriors. I enjoyed both God of Wars way more the demo and I'm not a fan of Dynasty Warrior type games. I'm still going to check it out after I beat Ninja Gaiden Sigma. It's an epic game like God of War and I really like those.
EricDeLee
After spending some time with the game (limited time... keep that in mind)... I like it quite a bit. It is a bit frustrating in parts, but mainly because I've never been a fan of button mashing/combos. I never really was good at pulling off combos. God of War suit me because there weren't that many different buttons you really had to worry about. Either that or I simply ignored some of the buttons. This one is harder for me... because of that. But then again... a lot of games are starting to get a bit 'over my head' when it comes to the game playing. I have a learning curve to get over... for some... it would be a bit easier... for others... its a bit harder As for the game... it is beautiful. Graphics are what I expect from a PS3 game of this nature. Storyline: Thus far is great. I'm not that far into it... but I like it. :) I'm happy I got it. It took a while for the PX to get it in stock... but I finally got it.
MegaManFan
Maybe it's all war and tits, but the videos I've seen have me thinking this would be a nice NON-download addition to my library. I'll probably pick it up.
EricDeLee
Well... I beat the game Was it worth $60? I'm not really sure. I guess it really depends on if I'll play the game again or not. I'll keep it around for the kiddos to play though... so I guess it will be worth it. I do wish it were a bit longer. The graphics are amazing, more than what I expected really. The only downfall of this game is that it is short. I'm used to stuff like Metal Gear Solid and other games where it took me forever to get through them. I love that we are getting great games that are great on the the visual aspect, but I hate it when the storyline is short and you feel a bit empty once you are finished. I felt a bit like that with God of War 2. I felt it was a great, great game. Just short. Now... it still took me a bit to beat the game. It has a lot of tough parts in it. I couldn't imagine what Hell Mode is going to be like. I hope others enjoy it as well. Perhaps they will come out with extras on the playstation store. spacecadet
I picked this up last weekend mostly because it was one of the few games my wife and I managed to play at the Tokyo Game Show and she actually liked it. So I thought it might be something she'd actually play. (I actually walked into the store expecting to buy NHL 08, but changed my mind at the last minute.) Anyway, I love the game. I know it's supposed to be short, but I haven't finished it yet. Still, I feel like I'm pretty close. It's the kind of game, though, that I probably will actually go back and try to get perfect scores in all the stages. So I'm sure I'll get at least 15-20 hours out of it, which for me is long enough. I'm not one of those guys that can sit there for days on end playing games anymore, like it seems a lot of kids these days do. It does look great (though not perfect), and it's one of the only games I've played in any genre where I feel like both of the main characters are equally fun. In most games where you have to switch characters, I always end up dreading the switch at some point and then trying to get through my least favorite characters' stages as quickly as possible so I can switch back. This is one of the few games ever where I look forward to playing both characters. I think both styles of combat are really well done. I love using the aftertouch feature to guide Kai's arrows! (Though I did switch off the motion controls for that; I just use the thumbstick.) It's one of those features that most game designers would never put in because they'd think it was "cheap" or unrealistic, but this game really gets back to the idea of just making everything fun. And that feature is really fun. I don't care if it makes the game easier - there are plenty of other things that make it difficult enough. I also like that you have all these amazing combos available, but you *can* just button-mash your way through the game if you want. And I don't see what's so hard about the different stances; all you need to do is hold one of the shoulder buttons down while you button-mash. I don't use a lot of the combos but I do use all the different stances. (There are some battles where you really have to... but the range attacks also just look really cool!) I also am really not usually a fan of western games' art styles, but this game is beautiful. Not just technically, I mean art and design-wise too. Even the acting and mo-cap is good - I mean just everything about the game's production is really top quality. So far I'm definitely not regretting buying this game, though we'll see how I feel at the end of it.
bdog_147
I rented this yesterday. So far it is allright. I'm stuck on chapter 2 "defeat the fox" i think it's called. If that's the guy with all the blades on his back, try using the right analog stick to dodge when he starts an attack. That will keep you away from those nasty red unstoppable attacks. If you can block his next attack then he will be open for you to attack if I remember correctly. She blocks automatically so all you have to do is make sure you're in the right stance, either speed or power(R1.) Hope that helps.
bdog_147
How long does it take to defeat him? I can't seem to kill him. After the cutscene/push the button flashing on the screen thing it goes back to attacking him again and I eventually lose all my health and die.
