atarilovesyou
...one of my early video game childhood memories has gotta be the episode of "Diff'rent Strokes" where Arnold goes head to head against his older brother Willis playing an arcade game called "Space Sucker". Does anybody remember this?...I've googled it a bit, but no luck on a video clip....no dice on youtube either. I still remember how Arnold skipped school to practice Space Sucker...he even had a dream sequence where he was in the video game itself...pure cheese, but as a kid I was like, "this game is AWESOME!!"....of course Arnold finally did put the smackdown on Willis in a huge finale that had the entire arcade watching (remember those days???...sigh)...but then Mr Drummond grounds Arnold for skipping school. What a TRUANT!!! "WHATCHOOTALKINBOUT, PHIL?????" Edited September 12, 2007 by atarilovesyou
Dauber
Wow...surprised youtube doesn't have a clip...That would be an interesting homebrew, at least! Complete with the option to have Arnold and Willis heads.... And wasn't there an SNL episode that had "Puke-Man"??? Basically, Pac-Man in reverse...I remember hearing about it at the time, but I never actually saw it....
atarilovesyou
Maybe it IS on youtube, but I couldn't find it....definitely a moment of how huge arcade games were and their impact on popular culture at the time.
atarilovesyou
...well a lil searching, and I found the parts: http://youtube.com/watch?v=rTsWSNNT1ZY http://youtube.com/watch?v=Dpi233Sxqck&...ted&search= http://youtube.com/watch?v=qyNhVhyEc6g&...ted&search= ....man, it has been AGES since I've seen this episode!!!.... S1500
Puke-Man on SNL: They had this plastic pac man, and were pulling out a string of pearls out of his mouth(think anal love beads). It was a fun little gag. The best was the short film about the kid addicted hopelessly to video games.
Ross PK
Lol, while I watched through the show, I noticed Arnold shot a meteorite and got something like 1000 points, then a few seconds later he hit a meteorite of exactly the same size and got something like 10,000 points. But yeah, I used to watch Different Strokes When I was a kid, loved it then and I love it now. Like the other guy said it would be pretty cool if someone made a homebrew of this game since it probably isn't a real one, it does look quite interesting. Jess Ragan
I'm a little more perplexed by how Arnold can guide the astronaut through space without touching the joystick. How does THAT work? I always wanted to play this game when I was a kid, fake or not. Diff'rent Strokes isn't the kind of show that would lend itself well to a video game, but Space Suckers would be a lot more entertaining than, say, a game where you're trapped in the bike store and have to run away from the Maytag man. deadmeow
That was such a cool show back in the old days! Do you remember when the show was canceled, then it was revived, I think on ABC, Arnold had outgrown his cuteness, and they had some new young dorky white kid as his little side kick. And does anybody remember Webster? hahaha.
atarilovesyou
...you can find some episodes where the white kid got on the show, in a bid to increase ratings...funny thing is, back then, for me it WORKED!..I was like, yeah!...new white kid!...now I cringe . I think that musta been one of the first cases where a show tried just about anything to stay afloat. I'm amazed how long it lasted in the first place! WHATCHOOTALKINBOUT, Willis??? +Random Terrain
Holy crap! How old is Willis there? About 30? The early 1980s is pretty much when I stopped watching. I saw an episode here or there after that, but not many. Never watched that episode for sure. Star Trek nerds might notice Rosalind Chao (Keiko from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine).

Actually, if you're referring to Sam (aka '80s Cousin Oliver), his new step-brother, he came along before the revival. Dixie Carter played his mom at first, but when the show came back, Mary Ann Mobley played the mom... Good Lord, I know way too much about this damn show.... RJ
Aww, you beat me to it RT! Actor is Danny Cooksey. His dad on "Strokes" was played by Hoyt Axton, who was the dad in Gremlins. NOW who knows to much about this? EDIT: sorry, didnt check the link... Edited September 14, 2007 by RJ
Gregory DG
NOW who knows to much about this? You do, obviously. Although, I prefer to remember Danny Cooksey from the Nickelodeon show Salute Your Shorts. Although, I thought he was on more than 16 episodes... Jess Ragan
Danny Cooksey now shrieks for a living as the title character in Dave the Barbarian, and the (pathetic) evil boy genius Jack Spicer on Xiaolin Showdown. Nobody wimpers and whines quite like he does!

At least they were up front about it on the show.

atarilovesyou
Diff'rent Strokes sucked, and always did. *cue the music! "Well the WORLD don' t MOVE! ...to the BEAT of just ONE DRUM! What might be right for YOU!! May NOT BE RIGHT FOR SOOOOME!"....lol, just bustin' ya, dude! I too remember all that crap, although not nearly to the degree you guys do!....another fave episode was where Willis brough home a huge baggie of mariijuana and was high as a kite....he called it "grasssss!"...hahahha! You can find the part on youtube where Arnold and Dudley get the moves put on them by the creepy bike store owner. That was one of those freaky episodes, where, as a kid, it made you realize that kinda scary crap was out there in the world...certainly the first time I had heard about something like that. Diffrent Strokes was good about that kinda thing, although now the little 'life lessons' you notice as an adult seem pretty cheesy. I guess lots of shows do that nowadays for kids, every generation has 'that' show. That show and Three's Company were probably my two fave sitcoms growing up as a kid in the 80's....Arnold Jackson and Jack Tripper were my role models!!!!...hahahaha! I noticed the asian woman in the Space Sucker episode...I couldn't remember where I saw her!...thanks!...she was the Scottish transport guy on Deep Space Nine's wife, right?
