PixelJunk Racers

Has anyone else tried the demo? I thought it was pretty good. It reminds me of the easy to pick up and play games of long ago. It's just your basic slot car racer with huge tracks, lots of play modes and up to 7 people can play at the same time. Next time my friends visit we'll have to try the multiplayer and see how good a party game it is. It's $6.99 +tax from the PSN store. Here's hoping PixelJunk's future games are as good or better than this one. They are supposed to have 2 more available by the end of the year from what I read. Anybody that likes old-school games will probably like it, so give the demo a try. Fun stuff.

I tried it. I commented on it in the Playstation Store Games thread. I thought it was an abomination.

Personally, I didn't see it's simplicity as a boon. It was merely a hold the button down and tap left and right occasionally game. I only saw the tracks as large 1: because my TV is big and widescreen and 2: your car is damn near a single pixel. As a twich game, I didn't find it engaging. I didn't think there was enough actual twitching for a twich game. The play modes seemed meaningless to me as they were really all the same exact thing. It was only "old school" to me inasmuch as the graphics looked like something from a 1983 arcade and it reminded me of a lot of the unentertaining quickie games from around the time of the videogame crash.

I played single player and 2 player. I completed the demo, with one gold and the rest bronze. I had no desire to return to the game. In fact, I told my friend, "I'm sorry. This game is just horrible. I have to write about this crap right now."

Now don't get all irritated. I'm glad you've posted with an opposing opinion on the matter. Am I out on a limb here? Did everyone else think it was just fine, and not a destitute man's Super Sprint?

$6.99 + tax?

I don't recall being taxed on PS downloads. Is this something new?

Haven't tried out the game yet. I'm waiting for Xmas to unveil the PS3, I usually hook it up every few weeks to update and check out the latest downloads, but then just disconnect it all again. Getting to be about that time, so I'll be sure and try out the demo.
