vdub_bobby
Land your heli and...um...get ready to fill in some area! It's time for Qix! Post a score and let's get this thing rolling! Please post any tips you may have - best tip gets 1 bonus point! Only scores for games played from the beginning will count! No continues! And if anyone has a link to the manual, please post it. This week's competition ends next Tuesday (October 2) morning at approximately 8:00 am PST. This week's scores: 147,792 Artlover (+10 pts +1 pt for best tip) 80,484 PressureCooker2600 (+8 pts) 58,249 vdub_bobby (+6 pts) 43,648 LarcenTyler (+4 pts) 39,798 Blackjack (+2 pts) Twin Galaxies High Scores 245,792 Gary A Hatt 217,086 Tom Duncan 55,148 Mr. Kelly R Flewin Overall standings: 1. rjchamp3 (18 pts) 2. vdub_bobby (14 pts) 3. LarcenTyler (13 pts) 4. gdement (9 pts) 5. PressureCooker2600 (4 pts) Game Info Coin-op originally released by Taito in 1981; ported to the NES by Taito and released in the US in 1991. Other platforms: Everything, almost. I don't know if this list is complete; probably not: Amiga, Apple II, Atari 8-bit, Atari 5200, Commodore 64, DOS, Game Boy, J2ME, Lynx Related games/sequels: Volfied (Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, DOS, Genesis, J2ME, TurboGrafx-16, 1989), Qix II: Tournament (Coin-op, 1981), Super Qix (Coin-op, 1987), Twin Qix (Coin-op, 1995) Tips Artlover: Use the tree branch method. Use the quick draw to box in the qix in a corner, then use the slow draw to fill the entire screen in one shot for a good 75% of high scoring goodness. If you can, split the qix atleast the first couple of times, and rack up a couple of point multipliers. Continue using the tree branch method, but don't concern yourself with waiting till the end to fill the screen anymore, as by this time the minimum threashold is so high, you don't have to worry about getting to close to it and reaching the end of the level too soon. Just go ahead and divide the playfield in half asap (using slow draw for the final branch of course), then start branching away in the remaining half till you can pass the minimum threshold A good deal of your points come from the bonuses, not straight game play. Focus on trying to exceed the minimum threshold as much as possible. Edited October 2, 2007 by vdub_bobby
PressureCooker2600
I used to have the Commodore64 version....it was called Stix.
PressureCooker2600
80484 I still suck ass at this game, just like I did back then. Best tip I can say right now is that on the first levels, try to cut the playfield in half right away.....before the stick-thing starts flying all over the place. PressureCooker2600
I can't get any higher than my hi-score. This game is downright monstrous when it comes to difficulty. I can't get past Level 4.

Blackjack
Well, why not get in this too. It's not like I have anything else to do Although, I've never owned an NES, so I'm handicapped right off the bat. 38,
