Shannon
Yeah I'm kinda torn between getting this or COD 4 for the 360 for my son. Thing is I've been spending a bit too much on games lately.
BydoEmpire
I picked this up yesterday and it's awesome. The Campaign Mode is a pretty standard WW2 FPS, for better or worse, though it looks excellent and the controls are near-perfect. The graphics look great, the frame rate is generally smooth and the pacing is good. The music is top notch, but the sfx and amient sound effects are sparse and repetetive. The Arcade Mode is a blast as well - and it plays like a traditional light gun game with some cool twists - you can crouch like Time Crisis, and there are segments where different weapons like the bazooka and sniper rifle creatively use the wiimote to control. There are checkpoints throughout each mission, and it keeps track of kills as your score. It's pretty challenging, and feels very fully fleshed out, not just something tacked on at the last minute. Reloading via shaking the wiimote was a little bit clunky, though, I wish you could reload via crouching, since you do that a lot of the time anyways. Not a dealbreaker by any means, just something that was a bit annoying. Finally, I played an hour or two of team deathmatch online with 10-15 players, and it's great. EA really did an excellent job with it - lobbies, stat tracking, you create an "EA Nation" name and account, so no friend codes. I'm not a huge FPS fan, but I had a blast with it. I'll definitely be playing more. Again, I don't typically enjoy online FPS's because I suck and don't have fun getting shot in the head every 5 seconds, but I felt like I could do okay in Heroes 2 - probably due to the controls and the game being new. There's no voice chat, though, which can make strategy tough. On the other hand, no getting called racist and obscene names by 13 year olds. I'm not sure if offers much that hardcore FPS fans haven't already seen, but you get a lot of value for money, as none of the three main modes (FPS, Light Gun and Arcade) are "throwaways." My EA Nation profile is BydoEmpire - see you guys online.
Shannon
Nice to see EA doing something to get around the stupid Wii code crap. That stuff is just plain annoying.
