a8maestro
Hi, This chat was created for our European Atari Enthusiasts to have a time and place to chat, with or without us. But for quite a while it has been down to 1 person showing up on a regular basis. He hasn't been there in months. The 3 or 4 others that used to show up, rarely if ever do now. Would the old Red Eye Friday chat be better? It looks like Atari Eurochat is dead. This is sad. I had hoped that with so much going on in Europe, we'd see people stopping by. But, the Sunday morning chat(10A CT) will go on as long as people attend. We really do like having you stop by and tell us what you are doing or get help. We have 2 other chats(irc and or telnet) during the week as well. 8PM central time for us(-6 GMT). a8maestro
mimo
can you remind me how to get on using SIO2PC/APE
Beetle
From memory it works like this: Boot up your Terminal emulation (i use and suggest Ice-T XE) on the atari. Make sure you have the R-Verter or BobVerter R: device handler named to RS232.COM in the Ice-T folder. Make your connection to the host PC using your SIO2PC cable and start up APE. On the a8 Terminal type in: OPEN www.atarinews.org 23 (or OPEN www.atarinews.org:23) then following should appear Trying 69.60.124.49...Connected to www.atarinews.org. Escape character is '^]'. CentOS release 4.5 (Final) Kernel 2.6.9-023stab044.4-smp on an i686 enter login: bbs and password: bbs then enter your username and password or create a new one press enter once press T for talk (enter) and C for chat (enter) Now choose the desired chat nickname. Tadaa! You're in... In fact it looks harder than it is. You can enter IRC chat similar to that: OPEN irc.atarichat.net 800 (or OPEN irc.atarichat.net:800) This brings you direct to Slor's Telnet to IRC Gateway. Just enter your nickname and be welcome. Pretty much only four regulars, none European . Sometimes Mr. Atari drops in. Come join us! (Scroll back to learn how to connect). Chat time normally begins at 16:00 GMT every Sunday. We'll try to think of way to spark new interest. - Steve Sheppard

+Stephen
can you do this from i.e or ff, namely the telnet business and this chat room (as i have now, for the time beong at least a decent internet connection) Carmel, I see you are on a Windows box as you mention IE. You can drop to a command prompt (go to start->run then type cmd). From the command prompt, type "telnet www.atarinews.org" without the quotes. If you want prefer a GUI, Windows comes with HyperTerminal. Even Vista has telnet, you just have to enable it. Stephen Anderson

Haven't been on in a long time - same story as others - LOT (lack of time)... I logged on there just now - my old account is still there. No one else was on though - too bad. +therealbountybob
I was nearly an hour late this week but chat is on (if anyone else shows up, that is). I was going to give this a try but after England's abysmal performance in the footy I forgot...
