Well, I was able to get it fast enough to handle about 80 enemies. I also forced the bullets onto a grid to make collision processing much faster and easier.

I suppose the next step would be to add other sprites. I'm not sure if I want to take this much further, though. Source is in zip file.

Something that occurred to me...it might be faster - though maybe not - to process horizontal movement by rows but process vertical movement by columns. Have to do two columns per frame to keep the movement speed the same.

You know, the arcade version of Robotron moves the Grunts less often when there are more of them. Couldn't you add a counter to your code so it only tries to move X number of Grunts per frame?

Yeah, it would be no problem to adjust the speed, especially to make it slower. :)

 

But I'm done with this for now; maybe I'll pick it up again at some point, but I'm focusing on other things right now.
