Huhu!

Hey Thomas,

That's a nice game indeed, but you should look at "Jake" or whatever it's called these days as well (I believe someone found the real title, something like Alien Invader). It's a very nicely done game, with a nice gravity feature. It's also a proto, but the ROM is floating around freely :)

From the early library Stone Sling, Monkey Shines and Munchkin come to mind.

Cheers,

Marco

Yes, I've played Jake a bit too, but I couldn't exactly understand what to do. Do you have more informations about the gameplay?

Hi Thomas,

Below's the review I wrote about the game after I had discovered it in the big lot of Eproms I had acquired. Man, that was a cool find: almost every single Videopac proto known to exist today was in there. If only I'd find something similar for the 2600 :)

Cheers,

Marco

"Jake"

The game starts with the regular Videopac Select Game screen. After pressing a number on the keyboard an opening screen appears. This screen shows the GST-Video logo and the name Jake. Although I don't know why this game would be called Jake, I will refer to this game as such, simply because I have no other title to go with.

The game starts if you press the firebutton or move the joystick in any direction. If the joystick remains untouched the game switches into a demonstration mode. The game is one player only and has one game variation. It plays on both the G7000 and G7400 Videopac consoles.

The gamescreen consists of a big yellow core that features two figures: your spaceship and an alien. The alien, while moving around the four corners of the core, throws (magnetic) balls at your ship, which cause it to move towards the sides of the core. If your ship hits one of the walls, it is destroyed.

You can move your ship up/down, and right/left to steer it away from the walls. The navigation of the spaceship is hindered by the absence of gravity, which gives it a very realistic touch. If you pull the joystick in a diagonal direction and press the fire button, you can fire shots at the balls and the alien. You score points by destroying the balls and the alien (which takes five hits).

A nice feature of this game is that it has an original end screen. On this screen a globe is shown. The globe changes colours, while a yellow ring is circling around it. The ring drops something on the earth, probably the devious alien.

I was really impressed by this game. It has some real nice features, like the demo mode and the end screen. The game looks very good and would have been a firm success if it were released. My rating: 5 out of 5 points for both graphics and gameplay.

Manuel

PS.: Da kannste Snoopy ja umso besser verkraften. ;)

Pssssst.

Wer damit spielen will, dem seien folgende Games ans Herz gelegt:

#20 Burgenschlacht

#34 Satelliten-Angriff

#37 Affenjagd

#38 Super-Mampfer

#39 Freiheitskämpfer

#41 Die Eroberung der Erde

#42 Die Suche nach den Ringen

#43 Pickel-Peter

#49 Turtles

#51 Terrahawks

#52 Killer Bees

#61 Interpol

Let's not forget:

Hi Marco!

What I'm wondering is, if you can actually read a German text, or if you're just scanning it for certain keywords? :)

I mean, Dutch and German language are somewhat similar, but I don't think I could read a Dutch text as properly as you seem to be able to read a German one.

So, did you possibly have German lectures in school?

Greetings,

Manuel

Manuel,

Yep, it's mostly English now. Both German and French are on the decline. I've had English for six, Greek and Latin for five, French for four and German for three years. I can read German if it's not too complicated (which it usually isn't on a messageboard) and spoken without too much accent (went on holiday to the Schwarz Wald last year and I just couldn't understand the bauer we were staying at, it just sounded like jibberish to me!)

Yep, I live close to the German border (only like 5 km or so), but for some reason not too many Germans frequent this town. The ones I see visit the "coffee" shop across the street here and that's about it, only some occasional visitors on Saturday. In other towns, like Arnhem and Enschede there's much more German visitors. And of course some of the towns in the province of Limburg, like Venlo and Heerlen, have lots of drug tourists.

Most people there will have no problem adressing you in German. I can speak some German but I find it quite difficult to speak and write correctly. Don't forget I wasn't born here, I was born near the Belgium border (so I understand Flemmish quite well).

As for the German-Dutch love-hate relationship, I think that's mainly a mass thing. When it comes to football the Dutch will still complain about 1974 and even refer to the war. But that football thing now appears to be mutual (remember the silly "ihr seit nicht dabei songs and websites"?) I don't think the people in Limburg like the German drug tourists, but that has nothing to do with them being German (and we created the liberal drug climate ourselves).

On an individual level, I think you'd find few Dutchmen who don't like Germans. We're not that far apart in character, though the Dutch may be a bit more laid-back. But after you've drunk some beer, you're not that bad either :D

Cheers,

Marco

Das ist normal. Ich verstehe auch nicht alle deutschen Dialekte.

hehehe, well as long as you can be a little irrational from time to time, we'll get along just fine. If you believe logical operators apply to real life too, you'll quickly loose me :D

Cheers,

Marco
