bdog_147
Hello! Well since I am finished with Super Mario Galaxy I was thinking about picking up Sunshine since I've never played it. I have read from members here that Sunshine sucked......but never said why it sucked. Was it the plot? The gameplay? Both? Since I never owned a Gamecube I would have to buy a cube controller and memory card. So that adds more cost just to play a Gamecube game. I can try to get that stuff used to save some $$$$$ but would it be worth it in the long run? Or should I simply ignore it? Thanks.
DragonmasterDan
Sucked is a massive exaggeration. It's an average 92% ranking on Game Rankings http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/533287.asp?q=sunshine But it's not as good of a game as 64 or Galaxy. The main reasons are as follows. First off, all of the levels are tropical themed. This seems like a good idea at first but the theme grows old after a while. The second problem is it's hard for a modern gen game. As many gamers are aware, games have progressively gotten easier over the years. Mario Sunshine is a substantially tougher game than 64 and much much tougher than Galaxy. Anyway, assuming you own a Wii you would need a Cube controller and memory card. You can buy third party products cheap (maybe under 20.00) for a small card and a controller if you shop around. And I think it would be worth it to pick that stuff up simply because it gives you access to all the GameCube library of titles.

bdog_147
Thanks for the quick response. I think I'm gonna pass on it. I'll see about getting a cube controller and memory card and get other gamecube games instead.

On 64 it was pretty easy short of the flying levels.

wrenchien
well... i don't see any nighttime excursions for mario in this game, what i played of it.
ninjarabbit
SMS was an 8/10 game rather than a 10/10 game that normally expect a Mario game to be.
Vic George 2K3
I'm itching to give Super Mario Sunshine a try if and when I ever get my hands on a copy and a game system to play it on.

Tempest Without the C buttons for the camera on the Wii classic controller, I'm guessing that the camera is likely harder to control. On an actual N64 controller it's a lot easier. Remember that controller was basically designed for that game. On a side note, the DS version of SM64 is definitely harder since the controller isn't analog and there is no camera buttons. bones
I'm playing through Super Mario Sunshine now and overall it's kinda meh. Not a bad game by any means, but not what you'd expect from a Mario title. I agree that the tropical theme, and music get old, especially after 30+ some hours in. Want to get SMS finished before starting in on Galaxy, just to get it out of the way...any game that doesn't grab you after that many hours logged it is can only be meh at best

There was just nothing about M64 that grabbed me. Maybe it's because I played it AFTER Sunshine? Who knows? To each his own I guess... Pixelboy
It didn't take me very long to get tired of Sunshine. What you're really doing is playing the role of a janitor who has to clean everything up. It's original and fun at first, but it gets old VERY fast. joeybastard
Sunshine is a decent game. If it wasn't Mario, I think people would like it better but when you immediately compare it to how great most of the other Super Mario games are, it seems lacking. On it's own, it's a pretty good game just not great.
Emehr
Compared to the fast-paced 2D mario games, Mario64 and Sunshine felt like slow, plodding games with unclear objectives that ultimately left me bored with the constant wandering and irritated with not knowing exactly what I should be doing next. It wasn't until Super Mario Galaxy when I became fond of Mario in 3D.
Wickeycolumbus
it is kind of fun, but the story line sucks (you have to clean up garbage). it is kind of fun, but the others are way better

n8littlefield
I actually loved Mario Sunshine - I enjoyed the use of FLUDD to wash things and fly around. I had more fun with it than Mario 64. Mario 64 had quite a few stars that actually felt like chore to earn but I never felt that way with Sunshine. It should be mentioned that I played Sunshine first, having just played 64 recently for the first time via the Wii.
