Why can AtariAge...

...put ROMs on their site and not get busted?

 

Now, don't think I'm against it, because I'm really heavy into the whole emulation scene. But all the emu sites are pretty much underground, and many have been shut down because companies don't normally like their ROMs posted.

 

Does Atari's stance differ from the other companies? Does Atari not bother AtariAge because the site kicks much ass and they like the publicity? What's the deal?

Well what I think it is, why would they care about somebody posting 2600 roms? They're very old, and it's not like any big companies are still producing games for 2600, 5200, or 7800. Also, Atari Age isn't a rom site. It provides information about a game, and also includes a rom. I could be totally wrong, who knows. Maybe Albert will tell ya.

Most of the ROM sites that have gone underground provided ROMS for newer systems from companies that are still doing a lot of business, like Nintendo and Sega. It's these big companies that have pushed the ROM sites underground.

BTW: Wasn't there something about the Activision ROMs AA wanted to tell us after CGE 2K2 ?

I reckon its something to do with the Activision Anthology and in a shock move Activision are appointing AtariAge as the distributer, but thats just a wild guess of course
