EPROM/ROM Question

Hi,

 

Is there anything out there that I can read to learn more about EPROM/ROM's? I mean other than the standard FAQs that say "You need an EPROM to create a ROM. Creating a ROM (I mean getting one from a cart) is diffucult so don't try it." I would really like to learn more about how it actually works, but so far all I've been able to find is the standard "what is it" faq and some technical stuff that's above me. Is there anything in between that will move me into the more technical stuff?

 

Specifically, I'm interested in doing something with the 5200 system.

Thanks, that's really good information. Another quick question. What's the best way to go at a ROM dump? Does that need to done using an eprom burner?

A lot of people use this (Thanks Eckhard, ) You wont need an EPROM burner for dumping ROMs, but you will need it to program the EPROMS.

Does the 7800 setup work for 5200 games as well? It was my understanding that the 7800 can only dump games for itself and the 2600.

it doesn't work for 5200 cartridges, they do not fit in a 7800 , the 2600 carts are the same size as the 7800 (the 7800 carts have 8 extra pins)
