Turok

Ok, I got to spend some more time with Turok and I almost took out the disk and snapped it in half. My initial view of the game wasn't that great, and boy has it gone down hill.

The inability to accurately target anything more than 2 feet away with an automatic weapon in heavy fighting, combined with the ridiculously variable length save points and the seemingly arbitrary amount of damage you can take before you die leads to some really, really irritating gameplay. The wild screen/reticle shake and the control which somehow manages to be oversensitive and non sensitive enough at the same time just pisses me off.

The sales of this game are even more wretched than I imagined.

I don't think gamers ever forgave the last Turok : Evolutions and now to release another crap Turok game....

Might be the end of the series.

Too bad, the game definately could have stood on it own if done right. I think the first mistake (and from the sounds of it, definately not the only mistake)was making Turok a Space Marine.

:x WE GAMERS HAVE HAD AN ASS FULL OF G-DAMN SPACE MARINES, OK VIDEO GAME MAKER PEOPLE???!!!! :x

:ponder:

Oooops Sorry

I agree. I did not like the game at all. I gave it a try... gave about 2 hours worth of effort and switched it out for Call of Duty 4. I just keeeeep going back to that game for some reason.

If you really want to get into it, I think the same about the Halo series. I really, really, can not stand it. I think it is horrible. Perhaps I just suck really bad at it. I don't know. But shooting some plasmis weapon... using a friggin shield that goes in front of me... etc. It just doesn't appeal to me. Resistance is that way as well... but I only tried the demo.

I think Call of Duty 4 has really spoiled me. I don't have time or patience for games like Turok when it doesn't play smoothly or work as well as CoD4. And don't get me started on the whole Turning Point game. I am livid about it. I was really really looking forward to it, just to find out it is basically TRASH. Horrible horrible game.

I bought it, but mainly because i love Ron Perlmans voice acting (Same reason i nearly subjected myself to Conan)

I played the Demo so i knew what faults i was letting myself in for, but i have the exact opposite problem to you, targeting things far away is fine, but then something is right up in your face, it's like the gun just doesnt want to hit them at all, and the bullets take every opportunity to swerve in whichever direction results in not hitting your opponent.

Combined with all the 'cool' screen shaking and being knocked the the floor during Dino fights and it's incredibly frustrating, not to mention boring, and sometimes pot luck to fight them. Pretty much the only option is to use the knife, and in a similar fashion to Gears of War, hope to god the other Dino stops biting you after you come out of the (BAD) animation otherwise you'll die.

The combat is a mess, and the visuals are nice, but theres something not quite right about them. Y'know, i dont know how to explain it, but they certainly look pretty, but in the same way, it all looks the same and if you spend too long focusing on the screen to aim at an enemy, you could swear the screen is just a mess of green/grey.

Overall, i think it's a big step up from Evolution and Rage Wars, but by no means is it a good addition to the series, especially with it's complete departure from anything story related including the Lost Land and it's inhabitants. In fact, the only thing it does keep is the Turok name being passed on to a native american indian, even then it seems somewhat of an afterthought.

And as for the crazy weapons in the familiar Turok style the developers promised, all we got was a Flamethrower and a flare launching Shotgun...

Someone hand me my Cerebral Bore, im'a teach these devs a thing or two.

What a shame. All they really needed to do is look at the first and second games in the series and say "This is our blueprint".

Fact of the matter is that this game studio has only used the Turok name, and has no actual connection to the original developers which made the early games.

I have heard some people tried out the demo of this game and enjoyed it.

(I actually didn't mind Turok : Evolutions...although I never did finish it)

Anyways....

Amazon has new copies for sale for the PS3 for $39.99.

It's a Gold Box deal so be sure and click on your gold box.

I feel like the only person who likes this game a lot. I tried out the PS3 demo first and can see how people could have issues with aiming but I think it's an entire different story for the 360. The checkpoints should have been closer together since there are A LOT of tough parts in the game where I yelled in frustration. I haven't tried the Co-Op yet but I think Turok is a good start bringing back the series.

Im talking about the 360 version in my post. The problem isnt so much the aiming, just the total lack of hit detection at close range, bullets just seem to fly past your enemies if you are very close and dont connect half the time.

I dont like the game 'a lot' but it's a solid FPS with some major flaws. But it's definately not a good start to bringing back the series, seeing as they totally ignored the series plot elements and 'did their own thing'. In fact the only thing that carries over from previous titles in the series is Dinosaurs and the name Turok.

Evolution was a better 'Turok' game than Turok. Even if it was terrible.

Personally i feel a new generation Turok game should be something similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl rather than a bog standard FPS.

Although after this the series will probably lay dormant for a long time.
