Pal 2600, no colour :( Please help!

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I have gotten my hands on an atari, the rainbow one that i think is a JR in NTSC countries? This machine looks brand new, everthing still bagged and tied.

Anyway, ive tried tuning this in with the original RF cable and will only get B&W (games do appear) when using the B&W switch it does respond, However only with a different brightness.

I only have one cart (32 in 1) which is PAL as it was never released in NTSC, Could it be the cart? or are we looking at a bigger problem? Ive tried on several TV's, all of which are multisystem.

I have opened it up and messed with the "pot", this has yielded nothing. If anyone can help i would be exremely grateful.

It's either a software (cart) or a hardware (console) problem.

Color loss normally happens on PAL TVs when the game produces an odd number of lines.

Are you 100% sure the cart is PAL and have you checked all games?

If yes, I'd guess the console is the problem.

Most of the games on the 32-in-1 cartridge were badly hacked from NTSC. The colour-loss problem is quite common for some of them. Try turning the console off and on until you get Combat or Air Sea Battle. Those should give normal colours. If these games don't work, it's most likely a hardware problem.

Ciao, Eckhard Stolberg

Hi, thanks for your help

Im hoping its the cart, I have tried all 32 games and all are b&w.

The console came in a box in mint condition, the controller still in bubble wrap, the RF cable tied in it's bag and the power supply still boxed. So its wishful thinking thats its software? when i opened it the screws where untouched and the warrantee sticker was still there.

Both tv's are not just pal, they do both ntsc's, seacam & pal. I have a jap DC running on both and a U.S Ps2.

I think i might break the cart open and try cleaning it, The 32 in 1 is pretty common here.

Thanks again guys, and long live the 2600 ( or maybe not in my case )

try a different aerial lead as well, and fine tune the TV.

Other than that, open up the 2600 and look for any bad connections.

if its just the colour, its probably something pretty simple.

Thanx 4 everyones help on this, Since the problems i was having i have managed to get a 7800, a 6 switch woody and a vader. These all work just fine.

Bad thing is that i hacked the 32 in 1 apart which wasnt the problem,

I also tried the av mod on the junior to no avail, Ah well, Its an x-file
