Planet Bob - Playing Jackal (NES)

Phew... I got a bit sidetracked this month - I actually wanted to write a Playing article for Sokoban, not starting yet another 2600 project

 

Anyway, spending some time with yet another quality Konami title, Jackal:

 

This one seems to be pretty cool, too bad it never came out in Germany. At first glance it looks like your standard Commando clone, but it's a lot more fun actually. Also, it's more like a cross between Commando and Choplifter, since your main mission is actually rescuing hostages, which really feels like a top down version of the second: You shoot buildings to crack them open, pick up the hostages running around and deliver them to a landing site.

 

There's also interesting boss battles, good graphics (scrolling also diagonally BTW ), the usual Konami muzak and the game isn't too hard overall, so it's been great fun so far, playing approx. halfway through it now
