Is a concept playfield editor available?

Hello,

I'm interested if there's a 2600 "concept art" editor.

I'd like to make some mock-ups, but I don't want to be limited to MS Paint.

I'd like something custom that knows some 2600 limitations, so that work will be easier.

I see that there's this tool available:

http://www.atariage.com/features/contests/CombatRedux/

It's an editor for reflected playfields ala combat.

This is nice, but it won't suit my needs for making some concept art, so it would be nice if:

1) PF reflection is not a requirement; asymmetrical PF's are totally fine to create

2) PF's can be thinner (i.e. limited per scanline, not per 8 scanlines or so)

3) You can place ball/missile/player graphics on it too (with the correct restrictions per scanline)

4) It's not just MS Paint. I would like having to place PF pieces "snapped to a grid", if you know what I mean.

Does something like this exist?

Thanks!

-John

Visual batari Basic has a great playfield editor:

http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=123849

If you turn on Use Playfield Heights, you can adjust the height of each row by either double clicking a number on the left side or dragging a line on the left side. Each row can be a different color too. Just turn on Use Playfield Colors, left click on the row you want to change, right click and select Choose Color and you can pick a color from the TIA Color Chart.

Once you are finished with your creation, you can save it and drag it into an open program file where you can have simple code set up to display your ball/missile/player graphics. And if you just want to see your playfield in an emulator without extra graphics, you can always right click in the playfield editor and select Preview in Emulator and instantly see what it will look like in a game.

If you want to make sprites, VbB also has a great sprite editor that looks and works similar to the playfield editor.

Hmm. Just saw this thread. My brother wrote some cool ones in Java a year or two ago. I'll ask him if they are still online anywhere.

It doesn't allow placement of sprites on top but otherwise it would be what you want. The main advantage over K Israel's is that it allows you to set colors line-by-line and has the correct PF pixel ratio.

Of course, all that's worthless unless he puts it back online...I'll ask him. ;)
