Do you primarily buy your "modern" games new or used?

I don't buy any modern games...last current-gen system I had was the N64 in 2000. I bought a bunch of games new at the time for it, but I haven't had the $ since then to keep up.

I generally buy used unless the price difference is $5 or less. If said store doesn't have any used copies that are worth my time, I just go somewhere else.

I normally go right for the used games (I'm an all-around gamer, though I prefer retro). I'm not the richest man on the block, so if it'll save some money and get the same result (i.e. allow me to play the games I want), I'm all for it. Don't forget, you can always ask to see the condition of the discs before you actually pay. Though I will admit, all of my Guitar Hero/Rock Band gear was bought brand new!

I try to buy used, but a lot of the times, on new titles, there is just a few bucks that separate them between new and used. So, I buy new.

 

But, if it's an older title, I'll buy used if I can find a sweet deal.

For the Wii I usually only buy new, I hate the crappy finger smudged/sticky used Gamestop boxes. I do wait for price drops though, I am currently waiting for the following....

Because I, obviously, have to buy classic games used, I find it thrilling to walk into a normal store and purchase a current-system's game. PLUS, I like the idea of having something that nobody else has played before....silly, I know....

I like getting new games for my most current system. It's generally not a big enough savings for me to validate things like scuffed disks and missing instructions or cases.

I don't buy used games at all. I just wait for the new games to come down in price. I don't have to have them when they're first released.

I buy used on not so new and new "filler" titles but when something massive like Fallout 3, GTA4 comes out, I try to buy the collectors editions new.

Mostly new, but that's only because I don't buy all that many "modern" games to begin with.

 

When the present generation becomes the previous, that's usually when the good buzz finally trickles into my retro-encrusted brain, and I'll pick up a bunch of used games for the other systems. The challenge then becomes finding the time to play them.

I buy most of my PS2 and Xbox 360 games used, but most of my Wii games new as the used prices are too high and often I can get new for the same price or even less than used.

 

Is the original Xbox "modern", or now you cannot buy new games for it, is it becoming "retro"?

I try to get the games new. Optical disks are too tempermental to not buy one that has yet to have been played.

Probably about even. If its cheap new I get it. If I really need it asap or know I will keep it I buy new. But I always try to buy used or trade what I don't play so as to keep my hobby a little more affordable

I typically will buy used games, obviously for older systems, but also for my gaming rig and Wii. The only new games I have bought lately are Sonic Unleashed (which I love and hate, you Sonic lovers know what I mean), and the Conduit for the Wii, which is a pre-order.

Since my entire collection almost consists of classic games, the only modern game system I have is the PS2, and I always buy them used. You can get yesterday's killer apps for today's low low prices.

Mostly used.

 

I don't do a lot of modern gaming. Once in a while a great title, with a large explorable game world hits and I get sucked in.

 

There are just too many 4 hour movie / franchise deals priced at 60 bucks to get me excited.

 

Sacred 2 on the 360 is a lot of fun. It's got huge replay value with several very differentiated characters, 100 plus quests, tons of items, and a great big game map with so much detail it's funny. And the developers have a great sense of humor too. I laugh often at this game.

 

Anyway, getting back to the thread, something like this used is the way to go. I did what I almost never do and bought this one new because I could see the play value in advance from the PC version. (I do NO PC gaming anymore)

 

I'll chip away at this one, character by character with my wife, and maybe go 6 months on it. In that time, I'll either see a used title to try, or just retro game, or work on programming / hardware hobby things.

the only modern thing i have is this PC (AMD x2 3800+) I own probably 5 games for the pc, newst one was bought last year from a S/H games and tech shop

 

come to think of it i think all my games were bought from the same S/H shop, less one which i bought from a sunday market for about 10GBP

Used. I've gotten bit by the hype before and bought a few games that suck. If I'm buying a classic game I first try it out in emulation, and a modern game I'll rent before I buy.

Seems like new games lose value like a new car.

I'm old enough to wait a couple few years for a good price.

There's nothing so excitingly awesome that I must have it immediately.
