pmpddytim
OK, I know that the GH III guitar for PS3 will NOT work with PS3 rockband. But does anyone know if the wired PS2 guitar Hero Guitars with one of the usb adapters will work? I don't think it will work but figured I would ask. -T

boog
I got one of the TAC adapters right when it came out and it works pretty well. It definitely lets the original Red Octane PS2 guitar work with both GH3 & Rock Band on the PS3. It even supports hammer-ons & pull-offs. I just had to adjust the controller lag slightly in options to get the strumming to sync up better with the notes on-screen. It does seem to occasionally miss a strum though... I'm pretty sure that it's the adapter glitching and not my timing. Tilting for overdrive isn't very reliable with the adapter. You really need to use the select(?) button to activate overdrive. Also, the overdrive trigger overlaps signals with a couple of the fret buttons somehow, so you can't activate overdrive if you're holding certain fret buttons down. It's a decent value if you're a casual player or are just looking to add a second guitar for both games. But, you probably won't be able to get gold stars on expert songs because of the adapter glitches/limitations.

Mostly the 2nd guitar will be for people coming over and playing during a party or what not. And no one I know can play expert or even hard for that matter so those should be perfect. I can play on hard but I'll use the original guitar. -Tim
boog
Found a cool accessory to go with the TAC adapter. Best Buy currently has a 'React' PS2 guitar pedal set on clearance for about $12. There are 2 pedals, one is overdrive and the other is whammy. The overdrive pedal works great with the TAC adapter on PS3. Makes up for the flaky tilt triggering. Works in both RB and GH3. You have to hold the pedal down for an extra second in GH3, but it still works fine. The whammy pedal is trouble though, it presses the PS button through the TAC adapter and sends you back to the PS3 menu. Hit it by accident and you ruin your score. I'm probably going to open the pedal up and just disconnect the whammy side. Now that I'm using the TAC adapter/React pedal combo, I actually prefer using my original GH1 Red Octane PS2 guitar for both games. I actually got my first 5 gold star on Expert guitar in Rock Band last night.
