Madden NFL 09...on the Xbox?

I'm really surprised to see an Xbox version available. I don't even see it for preorder on EA's website. It is listed, along with the PS2 version, under the features section of the Madden site. It is listed on BestBuy.com and DeepDiscount.com.

 

Hell, I'm a huge fan of the series, I think I might actually pick this up as an oddity for my Xbox collection along with the PS3 version.

 

I'm just really surprised that EA even bothered. What was the previous last game for the Xbox? Madden 08?

Yep...according to wikipedia, Madden 08 and NCAA Football 08 were the last games...until now

That's freaking awesome! I'm one of the few people who owns a X-Box but not a 360. I really don't play modern games anymore. But this is cool news. I can still get a new X-Box game! Whoo-hoo!

Sports games are always the last releases for a system because they're popular and a like clockwork yearly update (well except for the N64 because of that odd Tony Hawk 3 release).

Yeah, and honestly, I imagine it's not that expensive to produce. Slap on a new title screen, update the rosters, print new covers and a new front cover for the manual and then run with a low production run and I guess you really can't miss.

As fans of this genre of game (Madden 20x6), can one of you explain to me the appeal of this series? I honestly find myself amazed at the folks who do a full price initial cash outlay every year and the near-immediate depreciation of the game -- that buyers think nothing about. To me, Madden and similar titles embody the epitome of a disposable society.

 

The incremental improvements seem trivial, and the only major change is the roster and perhaps a few cut scenes and pre-loaded music.

 

Can anyone explain to me what is it about this series that is so appealing that I just can't comprehend it? Frankly, I'd buy last years copy for a song and just keep playing that until a major technical upgrade occurs.

 

For the record, I do own Tiger Woods '07 , but I paid like $7 or something for it about 6 weeks ago. I don't see myself buying newer versions of this game. I may consider an '03 to '05 episode to see if I can find one with slightly more appealing game mechanics.

I like football, so I play the madden and ncaa games...only I play each of them a year late. I refuse to pay more than 15 bucks for roster updates and minor upgrades in AI.

thats what i do now as well.i picked up ncaa 08 for ps3 a few months ago for $15 new on clearence at target,and i just got madden 08 for xbox360 for under $8 shipped from ebay.i will never again pay more then $20 for any sports game.

Well this year I justified getting madden because its going to be a whole new experience for me on the Wii
