800 XL - Serial Numbers - Secam/PAL/NTSC

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm trying to find if there is a link between the serial numbers and the Secam/NTSC/PAL standards. That could be useful for example when you buy a 800 XL on ebay, just to be sure you're buying what you're looking for.

Some of them comes from a french website

800XL NTSC

Atari/Warner

72RHA 085837 224 (224 is blue)

Taiwan

800XL NTSC

Atari/Warner

7YJ HA 3647524

Hong Kong

(black label)

800XL NTSC

Atari/Warner

72RHA 008718 114 (114 is blue)

Taiwan

(white label)

Hard to say. Atari's PAL stuff often has a little PAL label plastered on as an afterthought but they could come off easily enough.

On most of the 800XLs listed so far, the last letter before the numeric sequence seems to have meaning, but possibly not in other cases.

P - PAL, S - Secam, A - America (?), U - ???

U would be United Kingdom. That PAL model is mine and it still has a tiny blue "UK" sticker.

Addendum... The label for one of the SECAM models listed above actually says 84-ATS-40006-S125.

Hello all,

Thanks for you replies, i've updated the first post.

Could someone post a picture of the rear of your pal/ntcs/secam XL just to help the others to recognise their Atari standards ?

I'll add your pictures to the first post.

regards,

Marsup.

Before I re-read your note, I thought you wanted pictures of the label where the serial number is.

But I guess you really want photos of the back of the machines?

Sorry, I actually don't have a digital camera. But as long as I made these scans, here are scans of the bottom of my 3 NTSC 800XLs as previously reported.

It was a different video standard and now it is PAL.

Judging from the serial numbers I would say it was a NTSC.

Reason would say that this NTSC machine was converted to PAL.

All the soldering around the Modulator, different style of chip socket for the pal colour clock, solder work around all the colour clock circuit, all points to the conversion being done.
