Help with Atari 2600 AV Mod

Hello All:

 

I recently followed the istructions located here

to mod the 2600 for A/V output. The good news is that it all wroks, but the bad news is that I can't get the color black to show up properly. For example, on games such as Gyrussand Q-Bert, the background is gray.

 

I have tweaked the pots, but this does not help. Can anyone tell me if there is a specific connection I should be checking to see if I can get the proper colors? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you in Europe or the US? Don't forget the mod (haven't looked) is probably for an NTSC system.
