ClassicGMR
I use ePSXe 1.7.0. Edited October 26, 2008 by ClassicGMR
cimerians
I use ePSXe 1.7.0. I downloaded it but it seems you need a few DLL files and some plugins. I've gotten everything installed but I get an error when I try to run a game (using a CD). I'll play with it a bit more the next few days..... My humble opinion would be to use "pSX" - http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com Every bit as compatible as ePSXe without all that Plug-In, Reconfiguration and per-game hack nonsense. Just need the BIOS and you are set to go. Your error with CD's might very well be related to an uninstalled ASPI layer. You can visit http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/speed/softwar...i_471a2_exe.htm and get that package which should cover your OS. Also, if you have Nero, this layer should already be installed. I use Radio Shack's PSX-to-USB Game Adapter with Vibration Driver so I can use the joypad on my pc. pSX has a joystick option that allows for easy configuration of the dual analog controllers. Don't know if these are available anymore...but the catalog number is (26-304)
+LS650
My humble opinion would be to use "pSX" - http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com I had never heard of pSX before, but I tried downloading it and installing it. The process went smoothly and it seems to work well. I'll have to borrow some PS1 games tonight from a friend and see how well they run... LATER: I tried running four games that belong to a friend of mine: Wipeout XL, Ape Escape, Armored Core, and 007 Racing. Of these, I've only played Wipeout XL much, but I played that quite a lot several years ago on a real PSOne that I used to own. All four games seemed to look and sound exactly as if played on the real machine. I found that the controls for Ape Escape were overly sensitive, but this game requires a dual-shock controller and so I think the problems lay with my gamepad. I also found that Armored Core locked up when I tried to do a memory card save to slot 1 - but slot 2 works fine, as well as a game state save. I think if you have some PSX games you'd like to play but don't have a working PSOne, then this emulator will do what you want. Both drives were wiped out(thank God I had my 320GB external backed up with all my important stuff). Seeing that I now have a completely clean system I decided to try this emulator first. Wow. Just wow. I love this thing. 60 seconds after I clicked on the download link I was playing Destruction Derby II on my PC. MUCH easier to deal with than ePSXe. I don't like the fact that this emu won't see my CD-ROM automatically and I have to "Insert CD drive" every time I boot it. The config won't see it for some reason automatically. Overall a VERY good emulator. Thanks for the link.
Rybags
VGS was kinda great in it's day and probably the easiest to use. Problem was, Sony legal action saw it pulled and development stopped. Someone developed a few patches for it so it would work under WinXP. It's played every game I've thrown at it except Doom. The one big downside of this emu though is that it's got crappy sound quality, it actually sounds as if everything is downsampled to 8-bits. Overall a VERY good emulator. Thanks for the link. I have another issue with this emulator that needs to be fixed if anyone can help. I did this: Memory cards------------ This tab configures the memory cards inserted into the Playstations slots. To create a memory card click ..., navigate to where you want the file to be saved, and enter a filename (eg. "mycard"). but when I try to use the memory card it tells me it is unformatted and won't allow me to save. Did I miss something? EDIT: Never mind I found it on a proboards site... Q. How do I create new memory cards?A. When you're "selecting" a memory card on the Memory cards tab in the Configuration window, just type in the name of the new memory card file, and press OK, and pSX will automatically create the memory card file. Although many games will be able to format the memory card if it detects that it is unformatted, some don't. Because of this, you should start pSX with the memory card loaded, but without any game loaded. Visit the memory card screen, and any inserted, unformatted memory card will be formatted. Warriorisabouttodie
What kind of cpu speed/grfx crd do you need to emulate a PS1?
cimerians
Thanks a lot for the link. I really like this emulator! Yeah, some emulators can be good but require a lot of work to get them running but this one is good.
Rybags
I can remember most games I tried working pretty OK on a Duron 800 with TNT2 graphics card and 256 meg system RAM. Since you're only emulating a 33 MHz or so RISC processor and a graphics subsystem that doesn't come near even an old 3DFX PCI passthru card, the machine specs aren't exactly demanding. Although the way and emulator is coded can make a huge difference. These days, you could probably run just about everything on a decent CPU using software rendering for all the graphics. guitarmas
Yeah EpsxE is probably your best bet. If you are running into DLL errors, simply google search the DLL files you are missing and place them in the Epsxe directory.
