+moycon
Ok so Lost Odyssey is coming to and end for me. (I'm close to 1000/1000) I need to decide what game to pick up next between Fable 2 or Fallout 3. For those that have both, what's the better choice or am I better off just flipping a coin? Crap and GoW 2 just came out. *sigh*
NE146
Weren't you an Oblivion fan? I'd say Fallout 3 then.
Lord Thag
I have both, and Fallout is *vastly* superior. Fable is fun, but it failed to address many of the problems of the first one. The reputation system feels very fake and contrived. The landscape is still rather confined. It's fairly linear, and it's way to easy. The combat has been nerfed too. the game's not horrible or anything, it's just very ... average. Fallout, on the other hand, is amazing. The setting is one of the best ever in a game (think playing Mad Max or Escape from New York), the combat system is inspired (with slow mo gore to boot), and there is real freedom to do whatever you want. It's completely captivating. Awesome character designs too. Oh, and you get a gun that shoots severed limbs, teddy bears and ashtrays. Yeah. What's not to like? Honestly moycon, it isn't much of a choice. Go with Fallout!
+remowilliams
I had a whole lot of fun with Fable 2, but Fallout 3 is stunningly superior in every single aspect.
+moycon
Yeah no doubt I think Oblivion was one of the finest games ever made. I have the soundtrack on my MP3 player and was just listening to it earlier today as a matter of fact.
dgo
I didn't play fallout, but I finished Fable II. Although I had lots of fun with it, it gets old soon once you finish the (pretty easy) main campaign. It's fun while it lasts though. Just be prepared for a somewhat casual gaming experience.. A nice combat system, but the battles are very easy. During the entire game, I never lost a life. Still, the atmosphere is fantastic, and you'll definitely have lot's of fun with it though, getting families, talking others into having sex with you, earning money (also very easy) and buying property, finding stuff, deciding to be bad or good, and so on. A nicely done casual style fantasy action rpg. Very addictive at first, very accessible. Don't expect oblivion style rpg depth or freedom though. Go with Fallout! That alone sells me on Fallout3. I love the mad max movies and escape from new york movie. I was just saying to a friend of mine a couple months ago that escape from new york would make an excellent game if done right. -rick
+Zeptari
During the entire game, I never lost a life. Well this works for me too. I like easy.. I think I'll put fable 2 and fallout 3 on my future must buy lists. -rick
PressureCooker2600
Fallout 3. Hands down. And I've never even played either Fable.
Red 5
If you liked the last Fable even a little bit, you HAVE to play Fable II. I absolutely loved this game. Fallout 3 is very fun too, but very different. Definitely a masterpiece and way more in depthe than Fable II. While they are both considered RPGs, that is where the comparisons end. It's like saying Mr. T and Ghandi are a lot alike because they are both human beings. It's like comparing SimCity to Half Life. You need to play them both. The order should be based on length. Fable is a good 20 - 30 hours if you really get into it and ignore the main story. Fallout is probably as endless as Oblivion, although I hear when Fallout ends, it really ends for good. Credits roll, etc. Unlike Oblivion. On the other hand I just started Gears of War 2 and that may trump both of them. +moycon
I usually try to play an RPG until I get 100% achievements. (Iplan on going back and getting 100% on Tales of Vesperia eventually, Eternal Sonata I played back to back to get em all.) Let me ask this, how long would it take to get 100% on Fable 2 as opposed to Fallout 3, and would you need an achievement guide to get them all? Once good, once evil. Entire towns are completely different (or not even there) depending on decisions you make. Also, deciding which church or cult to help, eliminates the other which would need to be done differently the second time through. Probably 50 hours to get all accomplishments if you rush. I have only scratched the surface in Fallout, but it seems like it would be much much much longer if you go for every achievement (like i know you do.) The scary part about Fallout though is that the game does end. So if you missed some achievements, starting over would seem much more daunting than Fable. I still say pay Gears of War 2. PressureCooker2600
You'd have to play the game three times in a row to get 100% achievements. Once as a 'good' character, once as an 'evil' character, and once as a 'neutral' character........each type has it's own affiliated achievements. Freakin' Duck
I had a whole lot of fun with Fable 2, but Fallout 3 is stunningly superior in every single aspect. I somehow came out of Fable II liking the original more than the sequel. What gives?
bloodreptile
Well I have beaten the main quests on both games. 20 or so hour on Fable and it is really good getting there... I did not think it was as good as the first fable... then I started playing Fallout 3, at the start it was not good as oblivion...then it gets really good the main quest is about 50 hours but as said before watch out this ends the game... also the autosave can sometimes save over a previous great place... I am into it for another 20 hours.... a little bit shy of the 300 hours I have played the amazing oblivion for...
Artlover
also the autosave can sometimes save over a previous great place... That's why you manually save. Something I always do before going anywhere or doing anything. Over 400 saves between two profiles. It's nuts how it doesn't restrict you to a fixed number like most games. Maybe it should have because the load/save menu runs mighty slow for me now.
FastRobPlus
I was the support PM for Fable I so I might be a bit biased… Actually, I’m playing GoW2 now when I get my wife away from Netflix. The issue is we both want the big screen at the same time! *edit* you should absolutely play GoW2 - it's short and these other games are long by comparison. I'm worried you might never break 70,000 GS at this pace ! Edited December 9, 2008 by FastRobPlus
2600Lives
Fallout 3 by a HUGE margin. Not even close, really. While the Fable games are great, no doubt, they aren't Fallout great. This is seriously one of the most amazing games EVER made, and the fact that it's a Fallout game (of which I'm a HUGE fanboy), makes it even greater. Fable is fun for a while, but you see pretty much everything inside of 20 hours (if that, really). Fallout would take you hundreds of hours to see and do everything there is to do (and each playthrough is WAY different). So...freakin'...awesome... Artlover
*edit* you should absolutely play GoW2 - it's short and these other games are long by comparison. Yeah, GOW2 is really really good too. But yes, short. Hella lot longer then H3 and JB:QOS tho. COD5 is fun too. - Nazi Zombies! (and each playthrough is WAY different). I dunno if I would go as far as to say that "exactly". It's not completely different by default. If you play exactly the same each time, the game will play mostly the same as well. There are only a few truely random elements that are always different. Difference is really a matter of how you act, what you do, and what you say to people that creates a sweeping butterfly effect. To that end, you could probably play 50 times at 100+ hours each, and still not explore all combinations of dialogue and quest completion. Read - years of replay value. +moycon
Just so folks know, first I played Fallout 3 through to the end, and then played Fable 2 til my 360's took a crap and I had to ship them in. I was really into Fable 2 at the time, but now I'm afraid to plug the game back in!! I will admit Fallout 3 was the better of the two games, but Fable 2 was no slouch either. If you liked the first Fable, you'll probably like the second one. It seems to be pretty much more of the same, and as someone who's played a half dozen Koei games, that's not always a bad thing. PressureCooker2600
Fallout 3 IS the game of the year. (Fallout fanboy talking) COD 5 is awesome. Single player campaign is wonderful and multiplayer is exceptional and worthy of being the sequel to COD 4. I started to play Far Cry 2 yesterday and its immersive and awesome but I'm just not sure about it sometimes. 8/10 so far.
S1500
I'm by no means an RPGer(I've been playing just GTA-like games for years), and I'm hooked on fallout 3.
