My plans to go to Florida that weekend are set in stone now. I'll actually have to miss the MGC '09. Was looking forward to meeting some of you. I hope none of the items I'm looking for are there. I haven't had much luck the past two years, so I have to assume (for the sake of my sanity) that this year would be the same. Either way, I save money this year. Oh well. Looking forward to MGC '10! We'll surely have a house by then, so maybe I can bring home a pinball or arcade machine next year... that'll be worth the wait! Edited March 10, 2009 by Mirage1972

Badges will be in the AtariFest area, which is the area in the museum hall with the big Atari banner.

 

As far what they look like, here's a small shot of them (front and back). If anything looks pixelated or dark here, that's because of the size I shrunk it down to for display on the forums. Looks really nice full size and printed out.

(March 16, 2009) – Milwaukee, WI – After finishing work on the Gene Simmons’ Axe Guitar Controller for I2G, design consultancy firm Legacy Engineering (www.legacyengineer.com) expected the final production model to closely resemble their high end design, and more importantly, to be paid fairly for their work. Instead, the engineers were astonished to see the low grade knock-off of their design released by I2G, as well as no immediate payment from the firm.

 

This weekend, March 21 & 22, Marty Goldberg of Legacy Engineering joins a full slate of speakers and exhibitors to talk about his company’s ordeals at the Midwest Gaming Classic, the largest all-encompassing electronic entertainment convention open to the public. On slate for his presentation will be a demonstration and talk on the original Gene Simmons’ Axe Guitar Controller, Legacy's new line of Classic USB Joysticks like those found in the original Atari™ 2600 Video Computer System, and the much talked about Atari Flashback Portable.

That first news item is terrible! But the 2nd one--how cool! I wonder--will USB joysticks be available to purchase at the show? And which of the 2 days will the USB joystick and Atari Flashback Portable be presented? Sat or Sunday? (Right now I only have a ticket for Sat...)

That totally sucks about the I2G controller.

 

I'd love to see your presentation, especially the stuff about the joystick and the portable. Could someone record this and post it to YouTube or similar and then share it here?

Marty, I'm really sorry to hear that. There's nothing worse than getting screwed over by megacorps. (Been there. Done that. Didn't even get a T-Shirt. ) I hope you guys find a resolution that earns you the money you rightfully deserve.

 

I'm also going to see if I can make the presentations! You've given some great presentations in previous MGCs, so I look forward to this year's.

 

Can I get a badge as well? I'll be coming in on Saturday.

Probably my last time online not doing emails for a few weeks... Wanted to share though and the ink isn't even dry on all this news... Just a couple updates for the people coming from here, in nutshells. Check out the site for more.

 

We've teamed with The Sci Fi Channel and their new show WCG: Ultimate Gamer and will have an exclusive preview (never before seen!) of Episode 3, as well as get to play the first two episodes at the show.

 

We've announced the full speaking and presentation schedule.

 

We've announced the line up of pinball machines in the pinball tournament and upped the prizes. And if you enter, on your first entry you get a one hour free play card at GameWorks Schamburg while supplies last, which is one heck of a deal (you can play the new pins there)!

 

I have a feeling this is going to be a great year to be a guest at the show! Hope to see you all there!

In case anyone is unfamiliar with this place, it's a massive arcade/playplace/restaurant for both kids and adults (they even have no-kid periods) that charges for playing games by the hour rather than by the machine. I've been meaning to get there after seeing their booth at a recent Expo, but I've been somewhat discouraged by the door price. Getting these cards will make the compo almost a two-for-one special!

 

Of course, if anyone doesn't want their card...

And really, the SyFy thing, while it's weird I get it -- they have expanded their content so much and really have some great stuff on that channel that isn't science fiction TV. I'm all for it

Exactly. They gave us 100 cards because they are hosting pinball tournaments now too. On top of that, if you're a pinball player (like where my tastes have now totally gone), GameWorks is now a Stern test bed -- they have had the test version of 24 our there for about a month now, and it is just starting to ship this week! It's a great place to game, and the cards I think are worth like $15 apiece, so it practically makes your first tournament entry free, and you get to play against some of the best in the world (and compete for a purse now worth $1750!!)

 

It's going to be one heck of a show, I can't wait!

You can totally bring stuff to trade, but we ask that no one sells stuff. The vendors make an investment to be able to vend at the show, so if we let people just set up shop and sell it wouldn't be fair to them. But trading is totally cool, and like I said, many vendors do accept credit cards.

 

And truthfully, you could come to the Midwest Gaming Classic, not spend a dime other than admission and still have a spectacular time. We have a whole hall where basically no one is selling anything (except tournaments) and you can have a blast in it easily both days and not see everything. Or spend the entire day Saturday listening and watching speakers and presentations, which we've got a spectacular line up of

They wouldn't accept the explanation that the transactions were from an expo, so a lot of vendors were stuck chasing down the purchasers to ask them to resubmit payment.

Messiah entertainment was one of the main ones taking paypal, I think they had a bit of trouble

thanks for that information, at least for the shirts I'll be selling at the show I can still take cash or checks( and cafepress.com orders can be credit cards)

I just had to comment on this--I feel this is the beginning of the end for the "SciFi" channel. Wrestling (among other things) was just the start. SyFy? Really? There is tons of backlash against them for this and rightfully so. I hope someone else comes along and starts a new Science Fiction channel, instead of alienating their core viewership base with all the non-science fiction programming (wrestling? Really?) and stupid stunts like changing their name to "SyFy".

Sci-fi used have great shows on durring it launch: Farscape, Sliders(repeats) as well as some cool sci-fi movies.

comcast moved the station from it basic lineup to the digital lineup, thats about the time sci-fi starting going down hill
