advfan
Does anyone know if, like with the Atari and Commodore computers with their preservation efforts, there is a similar thing for the Apple II, or at least a place where original dumps can be found and not cracked images? aftermac
I have thousands of Apple II games that I acquired from a preservation effort. Not sure if the effort still exists, but I have 14+ GB of compressed Apple II and Mac Software. Anything specific you are looking for? I have about 5 gigs of apple ][ series images and stuff, including tons of bbs files and logs and everything you can imagine. I am only looking for saturn navigator from sublogic, I have an original, but I want to try this on an emulator.. swap libraries?

I've probably got a couple gigs (haven't added the A2 stuff up), The vast majority of my software is Macintosh, since started dramatically increasing in size. ...and sure... the archive I downloaded from was kind of scatterered, and I haven't taken the time to organize it... Let me get all the A2 stuff together. I have thousands of Apple II games that I acquired from a preservation effort. I'm mostly interested in graphic adventures and RPG's, but as I said, only if they don't have the 'cracked by' loading screens that most Apple II images that are available through the Internet have. Keatah
I have a bunch of stuff downloaded from the net, AND original disks in the plastic baggies purchased in the late 70's and early 80's. I'd like some suggestions for somehow archiving and transfering these original 'copy-protected' disks to a modern pc(for use with emulators) and also having the ability to re-write them back to a blank disk, or 'refresh' the original disk. How can I hook up a disk ][ drive to a pc is what I should be asking..? And how to 'bit-copy' these disks.. I need to over 2500 floppies before the iron-oxide coating rusts!! +remowilliams
Beat me to it. ADT is kickass Is there a similar solution to handle NIB type operations? I've looked around but never found one.

Would you happen to have a copy of the Glider Pro CD disk image? Unfortunately, I do not have Glider Pro, though I did find that it is now freeware: http://homepage.mac.com/calhoun/Glider%20PRO.html So... I guess I do have it now. I also have Glider, Glider 3.0, 3.1.2, 4.0.4, & 4.0.9.

It's no big deal. I know there's disk image of that somewhere.
david__schmidt
Is there a similar solution to handle NIB type operations? Not exactly. NIB is a lossy format, and so is not particularly deterministic. There does not exist a software solution to reliably "bit copy" every possible copy protection scheme out there. Which is why so many games have crack screens on them... in order to be archived, most need to be cracked to remove the copy protection before they can be copied reliably. NIB takes care of some of the lightest copy protection, but for the more sophisticated types, there is no general solution available. For Macintosh users, the Virtual ][ emulator comes with an ADT variant called A2V2, which can transfer NIB and another (so far) proprietary format for half-tracks. It'll work for some of your 2500, but not always. I have been working with Gerard Putter, author of Virtual ][ and A2V2 to incorporate the technology into ADTPro, but have been exploring other technologies as well to see if anything better can be engineered. So far, nothing.
+remowilliams
Great, thanks for the info I definitely want to try out that transfer ability of Virtual ][. I had no idea it could do that.
