rhindlethereddragon
I was playing Night Stalker tonight, and scored over 50,000 points when the cage just disappeared around me. The robots quickly killed every man as I had no chance to get away. Just wanted to let you know what happens in case you never made it that far. The bunker gets destroyed because after you score 50k the black robot now fires yellow plasma bursts that not only adsorb your shots but can annihilate your home base. If you think that's challenging just wait until your score tops 80k. That's when the black robot turns invisible. Pretty much your only indication of where it's current locations is from it's weapon fire directed at your player.
BydoEmpire
Geez, I've never gotten close to 80k. I think my high is around 50-60k, I don't recall exactly... I have gotten to the yellow shots that destroy the base. That's pretty much when I lose. I guess this is a good excuse to play a few rounds. thrax
It was usually the beginning of the end when you got to the invisible robot levels and your base is destroyed. Another thing that sucked was the randomness of where the next gun would appear. If it appeared where the robots were loitering than it just made it that much harder to continue. vdub_bobby
I played this game a lot as a kid, only on my grandparents'...Aquarius! For reals! Anyone know if the two versions of the game are identical? I assume they are, but I've never played the INTV version. Man, I loved that thing. That was before we had a computer (our first was the 130XE) and well before we had a NES. Nightstalker, Discs of Tron, Utopia. Even did some goofy BASIC programming. Didn't realize at the time how badly that computer sucked. Ahh....good times.

Gameplay is pretty much the same but a bit more basic on the Aquarius version.

I thought that the INTV and the Aquarius were basically the same hardware, just packaged differently (like 5200 vs. 800XL).

The Aquarius is a repackaged computer from an overseas outfit called Radofin that Mattel bought so they could quickly get their promised Intellivision Computer to market and stop paying fines. The Aquarius itself is a very underpowered little computer that doesn't even have graphics capabilities, just character sets (from what I understand anyway) which is why all the games look rather craptacular. BydoEmpire
I played Night Stalker on the Aquarius, too, I forgot about that. The Inty version is definitely better. I remember doing line drawing in BASIC on the Aquarius, so I kind of assumed it had *some* graphics capability. I would assume no sprites... Anyways, does anyone know if there is an actual ending/kill screen, or does it just get impossibly hard? I never seem to get significantly further after the lead robot becomes invisible so I really couldn't say personally.
