Galactus
This is pretty much the last system that I'm interested in getting and I haven't been able to decide. The low prices make it very tempting though. I can't believe how many of these I see for sale that still have the box (in good shape!). Obviously the games are limited but the controllers look interesting and some of the screenshots have reasonable graphics. I also noticed that there is at least some homebrew development for it. I just thought I'd see if anyone wants to put in their 2 on this console. Thanks.
nathanallan
If you can find one cheap as you say I would get it. The controllers are really great to use and even serviceable. The only turn off that I have about it are the hard-wired controllers. Otherwise it's a great game. Nathan
madhatter667
I think the later generation O2s had unpluggable controllers. I could be wrong though. Dude, if you can get an O2, get it. I like mine, though I haven't played it in a while (hard up on space inside, so I have to console juggle). The controllers are actually pretty nice feeling, and relatively responsive in my experience.
BigO
I don't know when the detachable controllers appeared, but I know they did because I have one. A controller that is. I expect I'll stumble across an O2 to go with it someday.
moycon
I have two of them. The system itself looks awesome. I can recall when i first saw an O2 many mnay years ago at a neighbors house. When I saw it had a full keyboard I just knew this system blew my Atari 2600 away!! Then I played it. My Atari was safe from being blown away. Very very safe. frenchman
Oh I wish I had one, the Euro release was called VideoPac and I think we got some more games than the USA. Is that correct?

I have a pair of the controllers but I always thought that someone had taken them from an Odyssey2 to use on their Atari. I stand corrected, thanks for the info! I think I will try to pick one of these up if I can get it with detachable controllers. I love my intellivision but the hard-wired controllers suck. I play with the console in my lap. tisaperfectdayelise
I don't want to rain on anyone's parade (not that my opinion actually matters), but my neighbor had the O2, and I HATED it :-) We had the 2600 at our house, and I can remember being bored to tears at Grant's house, with his O2, knock-off titles. I remember having to press REALLY hard on that "keyboard" thing, too. I suppose it's a nice piece of nostalgia, but I didn't find any of the titles that my neighbor had very fun at all. the.golden.ax
O2 is one of the great classics right in there with the Coleco and 2600. It is on par with both those systems for both graphics and game play. I'd say that around 25% of the classic titles still hold their fun factor after all these years. That to me is slightly higher per capita than Atari, and slightly lower than Coleco. (all my opinion). Try an emulator (easily found), it is well worth a look if you are interested. Someone asked me to get them a nice set together before the holidays, and then never contacted me again after they went to their Moms house for Christmas. I lost their PM, so I have a set ready to go if you want a good deal. I'm personally planning on getting one of those multi carts with all the games on them. I tried to collect for a while, but I just don't have the space or drive to get everything for every system. tisperfect, maybe the neighbor had lousy games? Some of them are still supurb. Chickybaby
Have an O2 as well as a decent amount of games but truly can't remember playing it in the last 5 years. I've played the 2600 and 7800 firstly and don't think I have ever not had one plugged in, followed by Colecovision, Dreamcast, Genesis, NES, and only occasionally played Intellivision, PS2, or 5200. kroogur
Mine has detachable controllers: I don't regret getting mine it's an interesting addition to my collection and a few of the games are fun and interesting like Quest for the Rings. Mirage
I would pick one up if I were you. They're cheap, extremely easy to collect for, and some of the games are fun. I certainly don't consider the graphics to be anywhere near being equivalent to ColecoVision, but more like early Atari 2600 games, but with a unique feel. Plus, they're easy to find now, but in 10 years, maybe not so much. Get one now, I doubt they'll ever be cheaper. The removable controller ones aren't very easy to find in my experience. The wired controller wires aren't too short though, unless you plan on sitting on the other side of the room, I don't really see it as an issue. homerwannabee
I agree with the majority. If you can find one at a good price go for it. In the years to come these will be harder to get.

AX I agree with this. The thing looks great - and i know i am in the minority but i feel like the OD2 stands with the atari 2600 Some of the games and various modes you can play them are great fun. RangerG
It's a system I have tried to like. It looks cool and I dare to say that it has the best stock controllers of any pre-NES system. Also, the packaging is funky and the prices are great. But, the games don't hold up. If you had one as a kid, the sentimentality will make it worth it - otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it (unless you have space).
doubledown
My cousins had one as a kid when I had a 2600. It seemed better than mine due to the keyboard, but as an adult I just can't make myself like it. I don't care for the games or the graphics, but it is fairly easy to mod for composite video and detachable controllers.
Reaperman
I've got one...somewhere. Honestly I wonder if I've ever even powered it on. I just bought it because it came with a "sack 'o games." Got it a few years ago, but I tend to snob systems that aren't as good as the 800 series computers I grew up with. Don't know why--must be a generational thing. crunchysuperman
I picked one up cheap with a bunch of games several years ago, but I've never even hooked it up.
BassGuitari
Proud Odyssey 2 owner/player right here. I was actually the first system I got when I began collecting, over ten years ago now(!). And for what it's worth, when I subsequently got my Intellivision and Atari VCS, they didn't make me never want to play Odyssey again. To echo many of the replies, it's a good system that can be had for next to nothing. And while most of the games are -I'll be honest- mediocre, there are enough genuinely fun, interesting, and unique titles (which can also be had relatively cheaply, and some of which have no counterpart on any other system, such as UFO or Monkeyshines) to make it worth your time. Some Odyssey 2 standouts: U.F.O. K.C.'s Krazy Chase Killer Bees Attack Of The Timelord Monkeyshines Invaders From Hyperspace Pick-Axe-Pete I'm personally a fan of many of Odyssey's "B-List" titles like Bowling/Basketball, Alien Invaders Plus, Showdown in 2100 AD, Thunderball, and Blackjack. I've even been known to take an occasional spin on the lowly Speedway (/Spinout/Cryptologic). But that's just me. The Odyssey 2 has also been home to some impressive homebrews over the years, such as Amok, Kill The Attacking Aliens, and Planet Lander. You'll be hard-pressed to find better joysticks for any system or computer of the time, except for the Atari/Sears/Commodore-compatible Tac-2 and Slik-Stick. IIRC there are removable silver and black controllers, and also systems with non-removable black and non-removable silver controllers (I've even read that there were a few O2s that had O3 joysticks). Pretty much every combination exists. All my Odysseys have attached joysticks, and while it's never really been a problem, the unpluggable variety would be a bonus, for convenience's sake. Long story short, if you find one cheap (won't be hard), snag it. Even if you end up hating it, it wouldn't have set you back that much. BigO
I keep seeing people say that there are great deals out there on these systems. I must have been looking in all the wrong places. It'd probably end up in the closet not being played anyway as, according to what I read here, that seems to be the fate of many of these systems.
