update failed screen

Recommended Posts

i had bought a xbox live gold card, so i hook up my modem to the xbox, and i go to update my machine: note this is late at night after coming home from work!!! so anyways it goes through its little updating scenireo and i get a update failed screen:

it says

Can't update your console. PLease contact xbox Customer Support or go to www.xbox.com/support.

i did that but no useful info.

So i called microsoft, they found a page where you can burn the update on a cd or dvd and you can pop it in the machine and it will update it. that didn't work so i went online and redeemed my gold card hoping it will work. nothing.

I guess i should have redeemed my subcription first , then did my updates, because i had bought some old xbox games and the 360 couldn't read them.

could i have buggered up my machine? can this be fixed some how???

What does it do now when you power it on?

xbox screen comes on then goes directly to update failed screen. thats it no dashboard or anything.

btw i get this code: PV: 2.0.7357.0 CV: 2.0.7363.0

don't know if this means anything?

According to this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_System_Software

It sounds like the PV is the primary version of code and I guess the CV is like an update to it.

I found this thread with people discussing what sounds like the exact same issue...

http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=608688

Which on page 2 directs you to this thread...

http://forums.xbox.com/ShowPost.aspx?PageI...PostID=25283951

Hate to say it but it sounds like a real cluster f*ck.

It seems like on page 4 of that thread some people got the update to work.

If you can't get it working, you should let support know you found a thread on xbox.com forums (the one I posted above) where many, many people were/are having this same issue and you want to talk to someone who has been working on it in the past if who your talking to doesn't have a clue.

The only thing I can think of to try is to remove any memory cards and the HD from the unit and try to update that way if possible.

I gave up on trying to my my own update CD with the download file. I ordered the actual update CD directly from Microsoft for free (plus $2 S&H) and after waiting a month for the CD <grin>, I'm finally playing classic Xbox games on my son's 360 console! Hope this helps, Cal

You should not need a Live Gold account to do a system update. The error you get is unknown to me but I will bet that it's a corrupt flash update. If possible, can you try again with the HDD detached and connecting the 360 right to an open internet port?

*edit*

Can you not boot the console at all, or can you boot and use it but not play original Xbox games?
