SpendTooMuchOnAtari
I would like to be able to not only play PS2 but also PS1 if possible, which gb is the best? 60gb? Also, I have a silly question. Will a TV that is not HD be alright for this and will the system play blu-ray discs on my TV? I know the quality won't be there but just wondering if I came across a Blu Ray if it would play. Thanks for any help!
SpendTooMuchOnAtari
You know what, I guess it doesn't matter the more I think of it. I should just keep my slim PS2 that plays all of my PS1 and PS2 games fine. In fact, I should go out and buy a brand new one and store it away, in case anything happens to my PS2. The question is still valid though, which is the best one to get? And, I'm still wondering about not having a HD TV.
cimerians
It'll work fine on a normal TV just dont expect anything great. I think the PS3 comes with a component cable but I cant remember. The 60G is the best when it comes to what your talking about but its no longer available retail. Some games dont work though, not a lot but there are a few that dont work. You can lookup and see if your game works here: http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

Thanks for any help! Should work fine on your TV, when I bought my PS3 they only came with the cables to hook up to a non-HD TV. Not sure if the new units come with better cables now or not but in any case, you should be set. As far as the best system to get to get the full BC, unfortunately they aren't made anymore. It looks like the 60 GB units with the full BC goes for around $300-$450 on eBay though. Not a bad price IMO.
tisaperfectdayelise
Just a reminder: Any of the current models will play PSOne games....at least my 80GB unit does. The backwards compatibility with the PSOne is stronger than the PS2's (in my opinion) as it uses the hard disk to create PSOne memory cards, making game saves much easier, and (although this may not affect you yet) playing PSOne games on the PS3 via an HDMI cable looks MUCH better than using the PSOne console..... Obviously, PS2 games are no longer supported on the models.....what a kick in the teeth

It won't let me edit, but what I meant to convey is that BC on the PS3 seems much stronger than on the PS2, in regards to the PSOne.
monzamess
This doesn't answer your question but gives more food for thought. If you are using a component video cable on the PS2 with an HDTV, it will not reliably display PS1 games. This is a known problem (google it) and it really pi$$es me off. If I want to play my PS1 games, I have to plug in an s-video cable. It's not worth crawling around behind the entertainment center to do that. As I understand it, the PS3 upscales all PS1 games and has no problems on an HDTV. So I'm actually thinking about a PS3 for PS1 and PS3 games, and keeping the PS2 for just PS2 games. Or maybe get a PS1 (again) and skip the PS3 altogether. Why did Sony have to screw all this up...
moycon
Why did Sony have to screw all this up... I've played both PS1 and PS2 games on my PS3, neither has made me upset. Just invest in an old 60 GB PS3 and you too can lead a stress free life. You can play both PS1 and PS2 games without getting on your knees and crawling behind the entertainment center! (I'll admit though, I think Sony screwed up this gen)
cimerians
Yup they did. I like the system personally but Im not sure what the hell they were thinking.
DaytonaUSA
Yup they did. I like the system personally but Im not sure what the hell they were thinking. They were thinking scary babies and floating systems.. and in europe, peeing girls... are totally cool! But yea, I love the PS3 despite their incompetent marketing department. Then again, being in advertising (artist), I think all marketing people are incompetent. haha

+remowilliams
Yup they did. I like the system personally but Im not sure what the hell they were thinking. In this case, they were probably thinking they could continue to sell more PS2 hardware.
