XL Keyboard Compendium

Recommended Posts

I'm making a thread for the sole purpose of identifying all XL keyboards.

Let's begin:

AWC keyboard

main PCB:

AWC P/N 100005 Rev. 02

70166205-01

F-key PCB:

AWC P/N 100006 Rev. 01

70166204-02

post-3606-1240173045_thumb.jpg

Comments: Nice metal-contact keyboard. IIRC, this one appears in many early XL pics. Note that the inverse keys are outlined.

Alps keyboard

main PCB:

12KF061B

TW-8494V-0

N0150600001

F-key PCB:

12KF078A

Comments: Another nice switch-based keyboard. The one in this picture has been modified with a replacement ribbon cable because the original one broke.

Stackpole keyboard

304T 83

SCCO C061983 REV 3A

post-3606-1240173619_thumb.jpg

Comments: A common mylar keyboard. Textured keycaps.

Stackpole keyboard (type 2)

SCCO C061983 REV 3A

3048340

post-3606-1240174230_thumb.jpg

Comments: Like above but with untextured keys.

Unknown keyboard

CO61983-005

22841229

post-3606-1240173974_thumb.jpg

Comments: PCB/switch based with very square and wobbly keys. Not a favorite. Textured keycaps.

Anyone got something different?

Did you notice that this is the only keyboard that has the white part of the inverse key in the lower right corner? Only one of my 800XL's has that too. I always thought I had just put it back wrongly after cleaning the keyboard. Perhaps the same happened here?

Ah, okay. I remembered that it had been discussed, but I forgot that pictures were already available. Basically, I had dragged all my A8 parts out of storage and I figured I'd take these pictures while I had it out. I think there's still one other keyboard, but I can't remember for sure. Is there an 800XL Mitsumi?

Also, I've seen 3 types in the 800 (Stackpole, Hi-Tech, Mitsumi) and only one Mitsumi type in the 1200.

Was Atari finding enough of a price difference to jump around this much?
