DaytonaUSA
Yeah I was actually able to snag stuff when the dragon was still alive. Just lure him over to the area where he'll try and breath fire to you and get him going a few times (breathing fire) then on a run as he's about to blow, run back to that area and snag away (Watch out for the tail). The body around the bend can be gotten whenever you want even if the dragon it there. He breaths fire at you but it won't touch you. Do the small things around the slug regenerate or can you kill most of them and have free access to the slug? They don't regenerate. You don't need to kill them all to get to him, just enough to create an opening without being attacked all the time. Use your rapier with turpentine on it on them and him. It's the fastest way to kill the boss and his minions.
moycon
Already a done deal. I had about 9 firebombs. The rest I did with soul arrows. Finally I got my body back. Next. Can I make it across the expanse with the dragon flying over head past the Slug now, or is that the same dragon I can kill with arrows? Not sure where to go next. DaytonaUSA
Already a done deal. I had about 9 firebombs. The rest I did with soul arrows. Finally I got my body back. Next. Yes, as soon as he starts breathing fire, run right behind him. Run the whole way to the first little tower thingy. Kill enemies that are here. This is where you can go on the top and shoot the arrows at him as he comes towards you. I'd recommend doing him later though. You want to get strong enough to be able to get through the rest of the level with ease and beat the tower knight. Then you can simply go back and kill the dragon once your strength is high enough to use (properly) the compound bow. TIP: After you beat the Tower Knight, you can spawn there at that sword thingy. If you go directly opposite of the new foggy area, back where you came from, there's two blue eyed knights that have their backs facing you. You can easily kill them and the 3 archers at the end of the hall, go back to Nexus, come back, do it again, come back to Nexus, ect in order to level up VERY quickly. You should gain (if I remember correctly) over 1500 souls from doing that each time. It's how I got to be strong enough to finally go back and kill the dragon (yes, I killed the Tower Knight when I was still relatively weak because distance + spells = win) PS: First and second towers have lower levels. You can go down it and find some goodies including that knight guy you helped before, a shop keeper who looks like an enemy (dont kill him!), and a LOT of dogs that attack you in packs.. be careful). I MESSED UP ON THIS SO LISTEN UP! If you get to a point where you find archers are down there, TURN AROUND. Beyond them is that knight. IF YOU START HIS QUEST BY SEEING HIM YOU MUST SEE IT TO THE END. I was just exploring the area, not knowing he was there, and because I didn't see his quest all the way to the end, this NPC is now FOREVER dead. Yea.. fun. You can only do things when YOU are ready to, or else you pay the consequence. This whole freakin game is nothing but you learning the hard way and paying for it dearly.. just as I did buy trying to kill an NPC in the Nexus, making life there impossible and having to restart as a Royal. PPS: Get a freakin strategy guide....or steal someone's deluxe edition.............don't look at me. Mendon
A couple of tips that I can give: (might be considered spoilers so read at own risk) When you reach Phalanx, kill as many of his minions as you can as they will drop Splinter of Hardstone, which you need later. After you rescue Yurt on 3-2, KILL HIM because if you don't, he will end up killing everyone in Nexus and you won't get side quests, spells, etc. Make sure you rescue Ostrava as you get the Thief Ring. After you kill the Boss on 2-2, take its Red Hot Demon Soul to Ed in 2-1; keep replying to him until he says "You have a Red Hot Demon Soul" (or something like that). This opens the ability to upgrade weapons. I consumed the stone when I first played the game, found out the error of my ways, and had to start over. moycon
Make sure you rescue Ostrava as you get the Thief Ring. Not sure I remember where I got it, but I have a Thief Ring. Was Ostrava a guy up above a pit full of zombies in the first castle with like a yellow aura? If so maybe that's where I got it. Yeah i know I could probably check the guide, but honestly, seems kinda lame to pay $60 for a game and then read everything you can do in that game. I'd rather discuss it with fellow explorer/heroes!! This game is considerably better playing through with a royal to start off with. Is it hard, yes, but I haven't died anywhere near as much now that I have switched.

DaytonaUSA
Nah, you're ahead of me. I couldn't play this weekend as I had to put the Celica back together. I'm still in the very beginning of stage 2. I couldn't figure out how to make the platforms rotate to get to the new blacksmith. When I hit the lever in the building, it only made the ones on the outside of the building go round and round. Also, I unlocked a door after fighting a while in the main aread of the first building, but a black phantom showed up and kinda made me want to get back to the Nexus to save my souls just in case I was attacked again. Of course I lost my progress because of this (or at least I think I did) so I just didn't feel like going back in. It was late at night and I was kinda tired. 2600Lives
You know, I just read what Tim Buckley thought of this game...and even though I don't own a PS3 (yet), this is one I'll NEVER own under any circumstance. I put it the same category as those stupid ass Ninja Gaidshit games of recent years, just unrelenting brutal difficulty and nothing else. You can't even PAUSE the fucking thing! Yay! Now if I gotta drops the browns off at the superbowl, I have to either save and stop the game, or risk getting killed, and when you die, holy SHIT is it abyssmal. If you're online while playing, other players can come into your game and KILL you, and you have no say-so about this. I do like the idea of seeing the ghosts of other players and whatnot, that's a good idea, but letting them into your game so they can hunt and kill you is absolute bullshit. I hope this game crashes an burns HARD, and fuck the developers for ever making it like this. Assholes.
moycon
You can't even PAUSE the fucking thing! Yay! I'll admit I was pissed the first time I tried to pause the game. To be fair though, in my experience with the game so far, as long as no enemies are around you, they won't just come at you. I've often just set the controller down and walked away (many times to let my magic recharge) for 20 minutes up to hours at a time. Yep I went shopping one day and came back hours later and my little royal person was safe as a pea in a pod. So you could drop trou, poop, beat off, make dinner, have sex and all the while not have to worry about getting killed. Also Mendon's instructions to disable internet work like a charm and takes but a second. That's the only way I play now because as you say, some asshat coming into your game and killing you is pretty lame.

xg4bx
FROM software are the only devs still making titles that arent hand-holding pussy games like halo and call of duty (no offense to their fans). i cant believe anyone could have a problem with them. i thought classic gamers could handle tough as nails games? they sure bitch and moan enough about how easy modern games are. moycon
they sure bitch and moan enough about how easy modern games are. Who are they "they" you are referring too? The reason I ask is because I've never once complained how easy modern games are, so at the very least cross me off your list of anyone. Not that it really matters, I hadn't really noticed this thread being chock full of negative comments in regards to the difficulty of the game so really the entire post is confusing. My progress so far: I've managed to kill the dragon, unfortunately the big Tower Knight (or whatever he is called) kicks my ass bad and worse I had a body with around 11k souls that I just lost to that f#cker. (In like 3 seconds trying to run past him and grab the body) I saw a strategy that mentions taking out the archers before anything, but I don't know how you would do this. He's on you like a pig on slop as soon as you enter the fog! Edited October 23, 2009 by moycon

I'll take that Armor Spider trophy thank you very much. Honestly this was the easiest boss I've faced yet. Having a Compound Bow +6 makes short work of him....and those pesky wizards. No pause in a video game is a pretty ridiculous oversight, though. I'm fencing on this game... if I can find it for a decent price or trade it for some stuff I haven't been playing, I would, but I'm not a huge fan of masochistic game experiences and I've heard that this one is especially brutal. At the same time, I don't have anything especially deep for my Playstation 3, and Demons' Souls would fill that void nicely.

Well, if you've read a lot of what we've been talking about then consider yourslelf warned. Rent it first if you can. Also if you have read what we've been saying the game is the direct opposite of masochistic. Far from the truth in my opinion. It simply kills you if your stupid. Its not trying to be big and bad. Not like some games do. I think thats why so many people love it because they can relate to it in some strange competitive way. It doesnt try to mimic anything or play sides. Its just an old style of RPG'ing that rewards smart players and kills stupid ones. Moycon: When are you online? During the day?

DaytonaUSA
I won't go into detail, but it's kinda obvious why you can't pause. You are always online. People are coming in and out of your world. Being able to pause would suck in the sense you'd have to wait on others. Also, it again, brings strategy into the mix. It's kinda like real life, you'd prep first then go in. You wouldn't be fighting someone and then be able to pause to better prep yourself for the fight. Same with this. Seeming as this game is ALL about how you do things, how you prep, and strategy in general, it shouldn't be a shock that this would be omitted. Anywho, I need to get back to playing this game. I've been making some progress on the second level, but I'm still not at the boss. I've had other games pry me from this one for the last few weeks. That plus my car has been taking up a lot of my time. How is the rest of the second level? Did you guys enjoy it?

Being able to pause would suck in the sense you'd have to wait on others. Not in my game they aren't (thankfully) and I still can't pause. Not a big deal though. I'm having serious issues with the Dragon God at the end of world 2. Basically you have to get past some rubble, which I've done, I went over to the first special weapon, then down the stairs all the way across the bottom, all the while keeping hidden and clearing rubble. However at the last pillar, before heading back up a set of stairs are two piles of rubble, the first i clear no problem, the second pile is kind of halfway up the stairs off in the distance. I've tried to hit the rubble with fire spray (per other peoples suggestion) from behind the last pillar but don't ever come close to hitting it. If I try and move in closer, the dragon breathes fire and kills me. How the heck are you supposed to clear that rubble!? cimerians...HEEELP!!!! cimerians
Holy crap Moycon your way ahead of me. I got to that guy on the Asian version and I kept dying. The only way I can destroy the rubble is with a weapon and then run back to hide by a column. It seems your almost by the last one and it seems you dont have the time to use a weapon. Your magic doesnt reach it? Have you tried other ranged spells? Most people use weapons it seems which is really hard. I could never aim well so always ended up using my weapons. You can also run over with no armor at all. No gloves no shoes no nothing and see if you have enough time to whack it and run back to hide. Repeat... moycon
You can also run over with no armor at all. No gloves no shoes no nothing and see if you have enough time to whack it and run back to hide. Repeat... I actually use ranged items as my weapons (magic and arrows) and the fire spray magic can be used while moving (altho it doesn't do as much damage.) The problem is I can't hit the rubble with it. It either goes too high or too low. Any attempt to move in closer results in quick death. I'm guessing there is a way to, get close, hit and then run back to shelter, damn if I can figure out how though. I did manage to get in a hit it one time with fire spray and then ran back to the column and behind it, regardless, I got fried. I've also killed demons in world 3 and 5 so I'm way ahead of you guys!! LOL
Mendon
Not sure if you found this but its from Wikipedia: Dragon God Attacks: punches flame breath This fight is more of an event than an actual fight. You must make your way through the area, activating the large ballistas along the way. If you remove most of your armor you will be able to move pretty quick. While on the upper level, the Dragon God will attempt to punch you whenever he sees you. Be careful, as a single hit is enough to kill most characters. To avoid the attack, pay attention to his eyes. When they glow red, hide behind a pillar so he loses track of you. If you do not go into hiding or are too slow to hide, he will punch you, going through any wall or pillar you may be hiding behind. After activating the first ballista, he will start to use flame breath attacks. These do more damage than the punches, so it is even more important to avoid them. Again, make your way to the next ballista without being in his sights for too long. This can be a bit tricky because there is a long distance between pillars and if the Dragon God sees you running to the nuxt rubble pile you are toast. Wait and watch him. You will see that he will close his eyes and lift his head seemingly in pain. This lasts long enough for you to run up to the rubble get one hit in and the run back to safety. Repeat once more to destroy the rubble, run back, then wait once more to run to the next ballista. After hitting him with the second ballista, he will be relatively helpless on the ground. Be careful though, as his normal breathing still causes damage. So make sure to attack him only after he exhales his fire breath. It took several tries but I finally took him out using this method. Main thing is to watch his eye's and head tilt like the above says. Mendon

Looks like you've become the official "go to" person now for this game, Moycon . Especially now that I've killed that HUGE sucker. Basically the last rubble can be taken out with direct melee hits. My Quality Scimitar +4 took it out in 4 hits. (4 very quick hits and then a duck around the corner) Quick hint, don't stick around behind the corner, it's not safe. I paused to let my mana recharge, because I could see one of those salamanders up at the top of the steps and got a face full of fire, luckily one fire blast doesn't kill me (but oh so close) so I managed to get up and healed. The salamander got away.
