thekrunchyfrog
I checked several sites and videos, then cut the right pin on the chip, but now all I get on when I turn on the NES is a white screen. Any ideas what I did wrong?
ApolloBoy
Are your games clean? It helps that you clean both your games and the cart connector, since disabling the lockout chip won't fix everything.
nathanallan
also make sure the screws are all in place for holding the cart slot in place. I have seen broken traces happen when someone tried to 'adjust' the screws by loosening them, hence bending the board until the traces broke. also check the connectors, contacts, all that jazz. shadow460
Time to replace the connector. Even then it still may not be perfect, but a new connector plus disabling the 10NES chip make night and day difference.
DeadlyDiskKun
Try bending all of the pins up a bit, it can make your NES operate much nicer.
Video
I'd agree with the above, make sure the games are clean, if it gets the blinky screen befor the mod, snipping the chip isn't goiing to help make it work. Less than $10 gets a new cart edge connector, but I've had luck just bending the pins a tad for a little more life (but have a replacement handy uncase you break one)
MasterESGT
Try this test: do not put any cart in the NES, press power and see what happened. A steady white screen (no blinking) indicates that the lockout mod is ok. If screen still blinking, the mod is not done correctly. Try to replace the 72 pin connector or clean at least your carts. thekrunchyfrog
I just got back from Vacation and had a chance to try bending the pins up. It works great. Thanks for the many and quick responses everyone. Great community feeling.
