Final Fantasy XIV MMO announced today

Holy crap....I enjoyed FF XI for a while but got tired of waiting for people to play with and then I got involved with WOW for a while.

I will have to jump online and try this. Anyone else willing to try it out? maybe we can get an Atariage group playing online next year.

Im sure it will come out on PC and 360 later on.....it has to. Its just too big of a thing if its anything like an MMO.

I know what you mean. I wasn't either but I had some fun with XI when I knew some friends. Problem is that was over 5 years ago so Im not sure about XI today.

I have the PC version of XI....were you looking at getting the PS2 or 360 version?

If they take FF XI and fix all the glaring flaws it had (not just sort of half-ass patch them like they've been doing) I'll be all over this. I've been wanting to get into a MMO again but FF XI has too many flaws and WoW isn't my style.

Yeah my main problem was when nobody I knew was playing I got stuck waiting around to get invited to play. Which rarely happened so it got kinda boring since solo play was almost impossible (with almost all classes.) I think the Beastmaster was somewhat able to play solo if I remember.

 

I never got far enough in the game to run into any other issues but I have heard about them.

 

This looks VERY promising though. I can't wait to see more of it.

 

Wow was pretty cool but I ran out of time and money and never went back.

I'd be willing to try it since it's console based. Seems like a cool idea if it takes off (ie: people are online).

 

I'm still wishing Knights of the Old Republic would go console wide as well, but I don't think it will. Either would be my first MMO in years, and I'd really like to get back into one (though not into it like most WoW players.. that's just scary).

 

@Tempest: Yea WoW's world didn't appeal to me either. I'm not into that whole Lord of the Rings look.

Yep that's why I quit. On bad days you could be LFP for over two hours only to have the party fall apart at the last second or finding out all the best spots were taken. And I wasn't even one of the 'undesirable' jobs (I was a Paladin), it was just that everyone had a very set idea as to what kind of party they wanted and if it didn't have the exact six jobs they wanted they left. So unless you were a RNG, WHM, NIN, RDM, MNK, or BRD (on occasion anyway), you were screwed. And as you pointed out, you couldn't solo unless you were a BST and even then it was iffy. The non-instanced world made getting much needed rare items all but impossible. It was a good concept but they didn't balance out the gameplay until far too late. I hear they've fixed a bunch of these issues, but the game is on its way out anyway so I never bothered to come back. Once FF XIV hits I think XI will become a ghost town.
