Free Internet on the 360....

Yeah, and a chunk of that comes from member fees....You can get a free silver member thingy, but You can't download the newest stuff, or play online I think, but the year is only like $60 or so, wish I could get my internet service for $5 a month :P

If your talking a full internet browser (which the wii and PS3 both have) then, eh...dunno. Maybe Microsoft is holding back so they can get people to buy the gold service to get all their features, or just assume people will use other means to get that.

Micro$oft has the cash to support it without charging gold fees. Its bullsh*t. The amount of money that Microsoft makes is mind blowing.

I dont mind paying 40 bucks a year for Gold if I can find a discount card but you cant help but notice when the Wii and the PS3 are completely free.

The only problem I will have is if an MMO ever comes out on the 360 and I have to pay for that, AND my Gold membership AND my internet connection.

I can empathize with the frustrations associated with Microsoft costing money to go online with and Nintendo and Sony being more or less scott-free, but at the same time, consider trying to play online with Halo versus, say, Super Smash Bros. That being said, I love Smash and don't really play Halo, but Smash has no leaderboards, no way to host or join games short of completely random matchups and those godawful friend codes, and above all, lags to the point of making the game virtually unplayable online. I'm not a PS3 owner, so I can't say much there, but between the Wii and 360 at least, it seems you get what you pay for.

Don't Final Fantasy XI and Phantasy Star Universe already use this model?

The 12 month is only $50 and if you check Amazon, they often have sales where you can get it for even cheaper. So in the end paying $4 a month for a well made network like LIVE is totally worth it IMO.

On the original topic, I hope they don't do internet on the 360. Somehow I could only see that making things worse. If I want to go online I'll use my PC.

I'd be cool with a "supported by advertising" limited membership package. You something like before I can play I have to watch a couple commercials for games or sneakers or whatever and it lacks some of the features of the paid accts.

No way. If I have to watch ads, I want full gold membership as compensation.

What's funny is that even when you pay for gold, you are still bombarded with ads.

I think some of you are blowing it out of proportion. There's really not that many ads, or at least what I would classify as an ad. Sure Netflix usually has a slide or two of what movies they are currently promoting in Video Marketplace, or there could be a "Doritos is offering you a free arcade game download", but other than that it's not really that many actual ads. Xbox All-Nighter, Community Playdates, or 1 vs 100 announcements are hardly what I could consider ads. Plus, I'm usually interested in what the Deal of the Week is, and what game preview they have to show.

Granted, there's stuff that might not be up everyone's ally. Family game night with Wall-E, or get your avatar a new hat type stuff, but is it really bothering you that badly??

I agree it's not a HUGE deal and there are other things, strategy videos, ComicCon highlights, etc... Seems like the ads outweigh everything else these days, I just usually launch my games.
