Just got an Intellivision

It got to me a few days ago, and have yet to really play with it. There are a lot of games for it that came with, what are some good titles? No list of the games I have, but I brought home Snafu, Astrosmash, Space Battle and Star Strike. Almost all of the games are complete with overlays and all. Also there are a bunch of sports games, and I have a few left from the ones I had for sale a while back (have to go through those again).

I need the disks for the controllers. I can deal, though:)

I like Space Battle. I think it's highly underrated. Astrosmash can also be fun if you have lots and lots of free time on your hands.

Burgertime is excellent. I also like Thunder Castle, AD&D Cloudy Mountain, Beamrider (of course), and Shark Shark.

The big question though is this -which version of Beamrider is better, Inty or CV?

I waist some time on Tron Deadly Discus, it's a great action game, and actually makes good use of the controller :D

Utopia is a strategy game, take over the world, yay. It's a bit dated, but actually surprisingly playable still.

I'd reccommend an Intellivoice and a copy of Bomb Squad, it's a nice puzzle game and uses tons of voice cue's to tell you what to do.

The sports games can actually be quiet fun, but you really need someone to play with.

Burgertime is a good game, and much nicer looking than it's 2600 counterpart. Same with Zaxxon, though even though blocky I think the 2600 one is better.

Tons of othergames, but I don't play to many of them :(

Uncommons to Rares:

THUNDER CASTLE! Do yourself a favor, and hunt for thunder castle, the price is well worth it! This game really pushes the Intv to its limits, with a great title, three beautifully detailed intermission screens. There is well translated victory, death, and invulnerability music, plus great in-game music with three separate screens!

Not to mention, it is just a fun and challenging game.

The Dreadnaught Factor. Very addicting, great in game detail, challenging!

Tower of Doom. You will NOT be dissapointed with this title. Compelling and advanced gameplay will have you feeling like your playing a graphically challenged Diablo.

Bump and Jump. An addicting little racing game, where you earn points by smashing other cars off the road. Cute in game music.

Diner. Imagine if Crystal Castles and Burgertime had sex, this is the outcome. Addicting!

Ice Trek. Multiple screens, challenging, lots of fun.

Dragonfire. Im sure you have played it on the atari, but this version is a little more graphically pleasing. Easter egg: press 1 while on the bridge, and the programmers name will appear as one of the treasures!

Beauty and the Beast. Although it is an obvious DK spinoff, it has playability, and can be quite addicting.

Tropical Trouble. If there was a sequel to B&TB, this is it (uses the same hero and villian) only this time you trek across four screens to reclaim your kidnapped lover.

River Raid. This is one of the best ports of the game. It is both impressive, and very fun.

Worm Whomper. A silly concept, but easily addicting, and laughs for everyone.

Pac Man. I initially though, oh its gonna be another crappy pac man port, but instead, I got arcade quality pac man with the correct sounds music, and even intermissions!

Dig Dug. A worthy port over.

Commando. Hard but fun.

Frogger. Not as good as the starpath frogger for the 2600, or even coleco, but it is nonetheless, frogger.

Q*Bert. I preffer this version.

AD&D Treasure of Tarmin (Minotaur). Fun, lengthy, and 3D (sorta) Just make sure you get the manuals and inserts for this game, otherwise you may have trouble figuring out just what the hell is going on.

Donkey Kong. JUST KIDDING. Although DK jr is not so bad!

Masters of the Universe, The Power of He-Man. Lame, but fun and novel!

World Series Major League Baseball. If you can manage to figure out how it works, it is one of the better sports games of the day, and fun for multiplay.

---

Commons that are fun:

Astrosmash

Tron Deadly Disks

Shar! Shark! <<< Best multiplayer ever!

Bomb Squad. "The code, the code! They'll never guess it in time!" lol

Burgertime

NightStalker. Cheat: When you aquire your pistol, quickly go to the bottom of the screen and shoot the robot right after it spawns. Wait about a second after it explodes, and shoot in that direction again, repeat. You will eventually run out of ammo, but this is a quick way to advance to the deadlier robots.

---

Also, if you need disks, I have a paddle I can sell/trade you for parts.

I have my collection cut out for me. I'm looking for good ones, and the only exposure I have had to the Intv up to now has been a re-release on the Gamecube and I thought that pretty much sucked.

How does Tron Deadly Disks compare against the 2600 version?? Just got that one, too. Anything D&D I am after, be it table gaming or a game cart. I'm a DM from at least the mid 90's. Love 2nd Edition!

I'll keep an eye out for those games, though local pickings are slim and my present stuff came from Canada. And I also need a better cable, the one I have for testing had a terrible picture.

Is there an AV mod for the Intv?? I'm up for it if so.

The two differences are that you use the keypad to fire the disc, giving independent directional control over firing versus moving. And that you get a chance to 'tap' the drivers of a recognizer that comes over the arena between rounds. One's mileage will vary as to whether or not the independent directionals are a boon or bust with the game, but overall it feels on about the same level.

I played the intellivision version a ton when I was a kid (my best friend had it) but I almost always play the 2600 version of it now because I always have a 2600 hooked up and it's still amazing. I have the Colecovision version but I admittedly haven't spent much time with it. Everything is packed away right now but I'll have to try it once my basement gameroom is complete.

i say that thin ice, snafu, space hawk, space armada, and star strike are good games.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing, but I recall Space Hawk being universally hated as kid. Wasn't in Mattel's (loosely based) version of Asteroids?

I'm going to give modding it for AV a go, the RF is pretty shaky coming off of it, so I'll consider it a repair and upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestions! I had no idea there were SO MANY game for it. I have a lot to get. Some I have already, but not that many. One of these days I'll make a list of what is here. Might do that tomorrow.

My problem with the RF was the crappy cable I was using, so I took the opportunity to make a comparison video-- ain't videos great?? I can make a video of any little thing I could ever think of!

Anyway, as I say in the vid, I do need the book and overlays for Demon Attack. It seems like a pretty fun game but just haven't gotten the hang of it yet.

Just too much fun.

Um, the controllers are going to take some real getting used to on that system.

There were lots of unique games. For example there was Mircosurgeon where you fly in the human body to cure people. That game was made by imagic which had excellent intellivision games in general.

D&D Treasure of Tarmin was neat because it was 1st person. Learning curve is high as all the keys were used.

Sword and Serpents was cool because one player can be a knight while the other a wizard. Each keypad was a separate spell for the wizard. Very cool for the day.

I kinda like auto racing. It was top view and the round controller made manuvering fun. Hitting the dial on the "down" make the car oversteer which is great for throwing the car into tight curves. Just think you were able to "Drift cars" decades before it became a racing lifestyle for the tuner crowd LOL

Now that they announced Tron Legacy Movie. There were at least 3 tron games i can recall. Solar sailer, deadly disks and maze-a-tron. Smashing the recognizers in the "eye" is really rewarding for the deadly disk game.

IF you ever get the intellivoice module i found the B17 bomber game to be the best one. Very full bombing experience from flying to and from your base, shooting enemy planes and avoiding that flak!

Astromash was originally looking more like asteroids too where the ship flied in the air but they changed it. You can still play it on emulation it is called astrosmash meteor.

When I temporarily had one in the late 80s, I spent a lot of time playing Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (Cloudy Mountain), Utopia, and Space Battle.

When I got one again a few years ago, Space Battle was still fairly neat. However, I just couldn't get into AD&D or Utopia again.

Beauty & The Beast and Venture were the two titles I never played back in the old days which I spent a lot of time with upon rediscovering the console. I believe the Venture game is even better than the Colecovision version.

Armor Battle is pretty timeless.

I may have to dig mine out of storage and play it some more.

well, i used to hate it when i was about 5, i thought it was kind of boring, but i tried it again just about 2 months ago and discovered that its not that bad. i guess little kids hate waiting for the later levels (the later levels get tough). u got to have some time on your hands for this game though, it lasts a long time like astrosmash
