mimo
Just waiting for my PS3 to arrive and wondering which driving game(s) I should buy. I like the look of motorstorm and motorstorm PR, is the pacific rift version worth the extra £s? Alternatively which games are better? HammR25
I think Pacific Rift is much better than the first Motorstorm.
Reaperman
I think every PS3 owner needs a Motorstorm game, and I like the first one myself. Tracks are easier to see, atmosphere is a little nicer, but the menus are clunkier. The big up side though is that if one bargain hunts, the title can be found used for under $10 (here anyway). It's almost impossible to beat that for the money. Don't take my word for it though--try the motorstorm demos. There are two demos for Pacific Rift, and one for the first motorstorm. alternatively for 'other' racing games, I own a number of them, and they're really nothing special. I generally feel that dirt, grid and sega rally revo are best avoided. But check out demos (I had more fun with the grid demo than the full game). UK's PSN actually gets a couple racing demos we don't have here in the US, but feel free to create a second PSN account on this side of the world if you're missing out on something. Of the other racing games I'd say Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is about all that stands out--but at this point you may as well wait a few months for the full version rather than buying prologue. Oh, and of course wipeout is still wipeout so there's another direction to look at. Edited September 16, 2009 by Reaperman
mimo
Thanks, motorstorm can be had for about $10 here whereas pacific rift still goes for a lot more, hence my question. I'll probably get the original. Thanks for your feelings on the other games too
DaytonaUSA
I like PR a lot better.. but that's just my opinion. Either one is pretty decent. Though there are better racing games than both of those for the system.
Tweety
I Love Motorstorm Pacific Rift, but also: Burnout Paradise City (The ultimate box).
Reaperman
but also: Burnout Paradise City (The ultimate box). I think that's the only game I've ever dumped (and in less than an hour) because of an awful soundtrack. It's all just recycled trash. Kind of like listening to a pre-teen's mixtape, and the worst of its tracks, can't be turned off. They even play whenever you so much as look at the game in the PS3 menu. I'm never buying another burnout game, and I'm real sorry I picked that one up. Edited September 17, 2009 by Reaperman
Christopher T Leach
Burnout bombed....Motorstorm was alright...pacific rift was no motorstorm the first one.....waith for the new need for speed game is my suggestion......

Really is a GREAT game, but yeah I don't play the included soundtrack.

That's right, this game manages to stink up my ps3's *menu system* even. sony really needs to put in an option for disabling game-generated sound/movies/backgrounds when browsing game menus. Generally in-game soundtracks whose music was composed specially for the game is my ideal. I don't see how a game with a recycled soundtrack could be seeing rating scores of over 75%. I'll make an exception for Fallout 3 which was still brilliant, but you just don't see many oscar-winning movies with recycled pop soundtracks. Burnout Paradise is a 'below average' game, with a 'way below average' soundtrack. it's a game that, like many, is less fun to play than whatever I'd be doing if I wasn't playing it. A shame because Burnout 3 was my favorite guilty pleasure back on xbox. It was just a brilliant game...with a slightly bad soundtrack... cimerians
Its the same on the 360, you cant avoid that awful Guns n Roses song until the game starts. Luckily I lower the volume and when the game starts (I start driving)....I turn up the volume and my custom soundtrack plays. Sometimes I just turn off the music and listen to the car etc. Its a great game though but I got bored pretty quick cause you constantly have to drive back to the start if you lose an event. Way too much wasted time driving to places just to do something over again. Edited September 17, 2009 by cimerians

I just use my own custom soundtrack on the PS3 game but yes you're stuck listening to Paradise City over and over and over again. I also just started muting the game til I got my soundtrack started.
