I mentioned in an earlier post that there were several video game stores that I frequent around Michigan and the states surrounding. I have been learning that several of these stores have no idea what to charge for thier games and may be loosing bigger than they think. Especially when I come in and buy the good ones because they have them priced too cheap...

Do you think it is a good idea to pay a quarter for an old atari game and sell it for gobs more being a business owner? I think that is good for the business man, but not really good for the consumer when they see you paid them a quarter and you are selling the same item for an overinflated price....

So many people are getting ripped off by this system and there should be a universal solution. Obviously you do not sell your classic games to the local mom and pop shop that uses this website for price guidelines, but how do you inform the general public? I have been flaggin craigslist, buying any and all I can before the people take their goods to local shops, but there just isn't enough...some how people are still trading in things like Frankenstien's monster for a quarter and it makes it to the shelf..I found this game and told the sales guy I would pay him fifty cents...he said he didn't own the shop so he sold it and I ended up picking up 40 more...I'm going back to buy the whole lot even commons when I can next week....

Chris is Videogamepricecharts.com the standard to which we price our games now?

Is it better than lets say Gametraders whom we both know uses Ebay as there price gage(or at lest at one time they were).

Am all for a standard pricing system for local stores but i just don't think there will ever be.

Be happy to get some games at good prices or you can be like those guys at VideoGames Plus in our area at over charge for there games and give you less then nothing on trades.

That chart should be taken like with any other chart, certain games are worth more to certain people than others. I can only use me as an example, I would pay $4 for some very common games because I like them or don't have them. I'll also pay more for games based on reviews or what someone here has told me (I mean personal reviews, not an online thing).

videogamepricecharts is not good everywhere, every city is different and prices are all over the place.

If I was to buy to resell, in my area most games are rare-- El Paso is not a gamers' town this is definite. Most games, even things like Sonic or Galaga for Pete's sake is rare here.

So, do you run, have business dealings with, are associated with, or have anything to do with that site so that promoting it or directing traffic towards it would bring you some type of personal gain even if it's not directly? :ponder:

Chicky if we are talking about the poster of this topic Chris i would say as far as i know he does not.

I know Chris and he is a pretty good guy i see or talk to him a every few months or so unless this something new i will say he has nothing to gain.

I have no direct contact with this site nor do i have my own my own video game store...I am just sick of local game stores that try to basically rip off the customers just to turn a profit of up to 300 to 400 % sometimes.

I am so confused..... shrugging my shoulders. I just visited that site and it gives no creedence to label variations. For example I just looked up Yars' Revenge which on AA has 4 different rarity versions. However this pricing site says they are all worth 75 cents each. Anyone care to sell me all their rarity 5 Red Label Yars'? If I was this site and didn't know any better I would get screwed out of a rarity 5 game!! Something I feel is worth at least 10$ (cart alone) I don't think we will ever see standardized pricing for games. Unless the game is new on the shelf. Simply because of the given condition of used games. Something with a ripped torn label, or missing end label is not worth near as much to most collectors.

As Jboy has suggested...we do know each other in real life and sure I have a lot of games, but I work for a financial institution, not a web programming site...I am just really annoyed that a business owner will go into business to sell video games and not even know the basics of a video game or pricing....When you ask an associate at gamestop about old games...they dont know anything...ask your local gamestop who Rob the Robot is...they freak out? No clue....Local game owners are sometimes knowledgable so I wanted to bring this topic up for those atariage members that might be video game store owners...I have a degree in business and I could successfully run and manage a business, I personally would never rely on this online database that changes from month to month or week to week or day to day...I do not live in China...I live in the USA and prices should be based on a rarity and availabilty...not some yahoo selling it on ebay...no offense to any of the above parties...

Thanks for the compliment Jboy

Had to ask. Some people like to be sly about such things when outright naming a site in the title of the thread. The content inside didn't have to do with the site directly. I'm not sure marketplace is the best place for it though and it is a bit against the forum guidelines if you had been promoting your site like that. I appreciate your responses especially since I may not have been the only one curious about it.

Thanks for the link to that site. It is rather interesting.

I still like Atari2600.com's priceguide. I think it shows a fair market value for the ones they were able to find for auction in single lots. The videeogamepricecharts one is interesting, but it has me paying more for an Oscar cart for the 2600 than an Atlantis 2 cart for the 2600. LOL

Any day of the week... I'll pay $26 for an Atlantis 2

Thus the good deals begin and I keep spending maybe 20 bucks a week and getting good stuff...

Videogamepricecharts.com basically takes prices from eBay, Amazon.com and Half.com for completed sales and creates an average price using a 90-day average. Like mentioned in other comments above the site does not take into account for games complete in the box, label variation, or other variables, etc.
