RSS Bot
Hi there! Interplaying Dragon Wars (1990): http://home.arcor.de/cybergoth/xype/dragonwars.gif When everyone was waiting for Bard's Tale IV, Interplay gave us Dragon Wars instead. I'm not complaining though, since it seems that Dragon Wars breathed some fresh ideas into the stale Bard's Tale formula. Most notably did it get a Wastlandish skill system in addition to magic spells. Playing on a far away fantasy planet, the players start stranded in a prison-like town on a foreign continent. The players first task is to break out of this place, while upping character levels and gathering equipment and gold as usual. It's an interesting start to the game, with surprisingly many story bits already. The graphics of this pure 3D dungeon crawl are a noticable improvement over The Bards Tale, albeit at the time they were terribly outdated when compared to Dungeon Master. (Of course, that's a common problem for almost *any* RPG that got released the first 5 years after Dungeon Master ) Since I hate mapping, I especially liked the auto mapping feature during tonights first adventures in the game. Dragon Wars also doesn't seem to be too hard - unlike those painfull first hours in The Bard's Tale did I get around quite a lot without dying After exploring the map as far as I could, I'm planing to sell myself into slavery tomorrow, as it seems to be the only way out! Version Played: Original, from "The Ultimate RPG Archives". How to Run: With disabled mouse it's running fine in DOSBox on 1000 cycles. IP Status: Still owned by Interplay.
