Mystery TI-99/4A part

Got this when I bought my TI setup. Can't for the life of me think of anything that goes from the A/V port to a 25-pin RS-232-like port, but here it is.

 

 

 

Any ideas?

The TI-99 had an RS232 interface peripheral, and the printer also used RS232 I believe.

Some of the older monitors used large DB connectors for input. Metering what those pins are connected to on the DIN might provide some insight.

Yeah, it's definately not related to RS232. It's probably a custom monitor cable. As was suggested, meter out the pins to see which is connected where if you want to suss it out.

You know what I miss? I used to have an RS232 25-pin cable that you could easily dismantle the plastic shell around the plug & rearrange the wires. That made for an easy modem cable, etc for my TI back then. The only cables I could find are fully enclosed not unlike power supplies.

I'm wondering of someone had a switchbox and build some custom monitor cables so they could use multiple systems with it.

Makes sense. I'd have done something like that...

Now that I see that, maybe I will again.. :-)

You know what I miss? I used to have an RS232 25-pin cable that you could easily dismantle the plastic shell around the plug & rearrange the wires. That made for an easy modem cable, etc for my TI back then. The only cables I could find are fully enclosed not unlike power supplies.

 

You can still build one, you just get the hood and the solder connector separately.

Well, I've an RS232 breakout box, probably came from Radio Shack, you just move the wires around. Comes in very handy.
