Gabriel
I think I'm going to start getting multi-platform titles for my PS3 instead of my 360. A big chunk of it is the controller. While the 360 controller is certainly better than just about any other modern controller, I have never liked it anywhere near as much as the PS1/PS2/PS3 controller design. That has been driven home to me recently while playing Williams Pinball and Tekken 6 on my PS3. The PS3 controller feels soooo much better to me. I always kind of regretted getting Soul Calibur IV for the 360 instead of the PS3. I did so because someone I knew had a 360 and no PS3 and was getting SC4. I figured as many online games of Soul Calibur IV were ahead of us as we had played games of Soul Calibur II in my living room. In reality, he effectively never wants to play SC4, and I have gotten very little online use out of the game. In trade, I have had to deal with the game with the awful 360 D-Pad. Yesterday, I picked up Soul Calibur IV for my PS3, and the difference with the controller is like night and day for me. I felt like I was much more in control of the game. I was more comfortable, and my struggle was no longer with the controller but with the imaginary character onscreen. So, that kind of cinches it. I think I'll be picking up Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 for the PS3 in the near future, despite owning both games for the 360. I'll probably be picking up multi-platform releases for the PS3 in the future rather than going with the 360 version. That's in spite of some inconvenient things on the PS3 like install times. This is not to hate on the 360. I'm glad I bought one, and it delivers some experiences I would have missed had I gone solely with the PS3, like Bullet Witch, Earth Defense Force 2017, Halo Wars, Culdcept Saga, Raiden Fighters Aces, and others. However, I think I'd be happier with my games if I erred on the side of the PS3 when the game is on both systems.
moycon
I'm the opposite, I love the thin triggers for pinball. The 360's controllers have some substance, and you grip it like your gripping a table. The PS3's chunky, flat bumpers just feel wrong for pinball. The controller is too light, and airy.
xenomorpher
I first started to prefer the 360 controller over the PS3's until I slowly migrated back to my PS3. The only thing that bothered me were the L2 and R2 buttons that would slip out from my fingers for games that required me to hold on to them. I got a set of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001IAOEXU?ie=UTF8&tag=atariage&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B001IAOEXU and for almost five bucks for just plastic is high, but they are of high quality I think and they do make a big difference to me. They've never snapped off whenever I've played a game.
+SpiceWare
Those look slick, how do they attach? Do you have to open up the controller?
Seob
I wished sony did this already with they're controllers. It is the only downfall of the current controller. Reminds me that i still have to buy a dualshock3 controller, since i only have 2 sixaxis controllers. But i would rather spend the money on games instead of a controller. xenomorpher
Those look slick, how do they attach? Do you have to open up the controller? They just snap into place and you unsnap them if you ever want them off. They stay pretty firm oddly enough for just snapping in. I wished sony did this already with they're controllers. It is the only downfall of the current controller. Reminds me that i still have to buy a dualshock3 controller, since i only have 2 sixaxis controllers. xenomorpher
got the triggers today - I like them. Thanks for the tip Glad you like them. Games that require you hold them in (Arkham Asylum to crouch, Killzone 2 to hold to cover, Dead Space to run) make it SO much easier, comfortable, and natural too. Sony really should have done this in the first place.
DaytonaUSA
How do you guys hold your PS3 controllers? I think the norm is to use all 4 triggers with just your 2 index fingers. However, I don't know why (I did this for the GC pad too as the "normal way wasn't comfortable), but I use 4 fingers..my two index and two middle fingers, with the thumbs available for the face buttons and joysticks. This makes the pad very comfortable for me. In fact, just last night I was holding the PS2 pad and it hurt my hands (which is why I always hated the PS2 controllers). The PS3's slopped back triggers are the sole reason why it doesn't hurt me anymore, and probably why I love the controller so much. If I have a game that only has me using the back triggers, I'll do the two index finger only position, but otherwise it's as stated above. I've noticed no one holds the GC or PS2/3 controller like this, but honestly, I don't see how you can do it the other way.
Lord Helmet
I used to absolutely love the PS1-3 controller...but IMHO the Xbox 360 controller is wayyyy better. Just my opinion, but given the choice I'll always lean the 360 route.

Just my opinion, but given the choice I'll always lean the 360 route. The PS3 controller is nice. A little too small for my taste, but not that big of a deal. But like Lord Helmet, I find the 360 controller more comfortable and for that reason (along with a better online service) I always pick the 360 version of a multiplatform game. Jess Ragan
The Xbox 360 controller would be pretty good if it wasn't for that ridiculous D-pad. Sanding down the controller well makes a big difference, as does slipping a circle of plastic directly under the pad. Still, that shouldn't have been necessary in the first place! The PS3 pad is also pretty good, except for the odd convex triggers and the separated cross D-pad that Sony had stubbornly stuck with from the beginning. IT'S NOT GOOD. Time to abandon it. Lord Helmet
The Xbox 360 controller would be pretty good if it wasn't for that ridiculous D-pad. You're right. The 360 pad would be perfect IMHO if it weren't for the horrible d-pad. It's a good thing that most games don't use it for anything more than menu navigation or issuing commands to "team members" in some games. If it was providing the main source of directional control it would absolutely ruin the controller.

It's games that use it as a primary part of control, like fighting games, that make the 360 pad useless. The 360 pad is one of the best things about the 360 honestly, but let's be honest, the pad was not designed with fighting games in mind. Gabriel
I'm revisiting this thread to mention that I've flip-flopped again. The death of my 60G PS3 along with the current absense of PS3s from stores and the recent Leap Year debacle has miffed me badly. I will probably eventually get a replacement PS3 so I can play Cross Edge and Valkyria Chronicles again, but I'm now left with an extremely sour taste in my mouth from not being able to play my games. So, for the moment, I've determined it's easier to keep one console running than multiples. I've invested heavily in my 360, and I think I'd rather focus my attention there, bad controller and all. At least if it dies, I don't lose all my saved games like I just did with my PS3. The loss of PS2 compatibility with the death of my 60G has also struck me hard. Quite frankly, one of the slim replacement systems will NOT do all of what I want my PS3 to do. PS2 compatibility was a huge deal for me. If I'm going to have to keep a PS2 hooked up, then it greatly degrades the attractiveness of the PS3. So, in my eyes the PS3 has been demoted to a tertiary system. The 360 and PS2 are both more important than it. If there's a system exclusive for the PS3, I'll still be inclined to get it, but otherwise I think I'm back to my 360. Sony has tried at every step of the way to deliberately make the PS3 fail. It's time I went ahead and let them.
moycon
The 360 pad is one of the best things about the 360 honestly (I know this was an old post, but still...) You used the word "honestly" in that sentence!? You should use the words " In my opinion" more and "honestly" less. Sorry to hear of your troubles Gabriel. I also have a 60GB PS3 and I agree, a Slim is no substitute.I dunno that Sony is deliberately trying to fail. I think they are just out of touch with gamers. They launched the PS3 (a year late due to costs) with the sole purpose of dominating the HD disk movie market (why again?) and have been playing half-ass catch up ever since. Hey at least the Slim plays Blu-Ray!! WOOOT!! A few games of Soul Calibur IV will calm your nerves. Even with the crap D-pad you can still beat me! I have no undying love for Sony as they make/made plenty of mistakes (looking at their latest, the PSP Go and the Leap Year debacle), but MS has no stellar record at all with the reliability of the Xbox360 console or its accessories. Nor are they customer friendly when it comes to waaaaaay overpriced propriety hard drives, wireless headsets, and wireless broadband adapters. I have no desire to get into a "System X is better than System Y" debate. I'm just saying that based on my own personal experiences, I'd prefer to keep investing in my PS3 as I find it to be a much more reliable and price effective console than the Xbox360. (But then, if reliability and price effectiveness were my only concerns, I would own nothing but Nintendo products.) I've enjoyed gaming on both the PS3 and the Xbox360.... both have their problems and their greatness. But when it comes to making a decision on purchasing a multi-platform game, I'll invest in the PS3 version. Mendon
cimerians
In spite of the date bug thing which still pisses me off, I've recently made the switch to the PS3 again and maybe its final this time. Mainly because my best friend got a slim a few months back. We've been playing a lot of games lately on the PS3. I'm also really interested in the Final Fantasy 14 MMO. I spent\budgeted about 100 bucks to "replace" some games that I used to have for the 360 and now I have them on the PS3: Eternal Sonata Oblivion GOTY Burnout Paradise Lego Star Wars Fallout 3 As far as controllers go I prefer the PS3, since I've used PS controllers for over 15 years now. The 360 controllers are still good, no problems. The triggers sold on Amazon are fantasic. Cant live without them.
moycon
Glad to see Burnout Paradise on that list. It's a game that I think is seriously under rated. I'm not sure why. I guess people like playing static mapped courses as opposed to having an open world to explore. I think many people who played the demo had and still have no clue how much there is to do in that game and the graphics are AWESOME. A+ title. I wasn't meaning to imply Sony was in any sort of trouble xg4bx or that the PS3 sucked. Only that I think they could have easily dominated the 360 (In America, easily the largest video game market) had their strategy been different. I agree completely, they will be fine! In fact I'm hoping Amazon gets some Slims in soon so I can buy another PS3.

This game to me was worth every penny I paid for, it was exactly the type of racing game I've always wanted. Free to drive around and an open world. Tons of stuff to do. I can understand the criticism's but to me its a classic.
Gabriel
Well, since my Hori PS3 Fighter Sticks didn't have anywhere near as much utility now that any replacement PS3 I get will lack PS2 BC, I traded them in. At the same time I decided to get rid of BlazBlue, KoF12, and Street Fighter IV. I didn't really like the first two. Street Fighter isn't one of my preferred serieses even if SF4 is extremely well done, and if I want to get it again Capcom is sure to do 5 or 6 minor upgrades to SF4 as full disc games, and I can just pick up one of those in the future. I didn't buy any DLC for any of them (all of them sucked pretty badly in that department), so no loss. I haven't decided if I'll trade in Final Fantasy XIII, Bayonetta, Mortal Kombat Vs DC, Tekken 6, Williams Pinball, and Soul Calibur IV. I already had SC4 for the 360. I've purchased 360 copies of FF13 and Bayonetta. And I'm waiting on 360 copies of MK Vs DC, Tekken 6, and Williams Pinball to arrive. At the moment, I'm thinking I'll trade in PS3 Bayonetta and keep the rest. I guess I should have just waited until I get a new PS3 to play FF13. And I probably shouldn't have replaced Bayonetta, using those resources to buy a copy of Darksiders or R-Type Delta instead. I ordered Resonance of Fate for the 360 instead of the PS3. I had been on the fence as to whether to buy the disc or download of Record of Agarest War, but this experience convinced me to go ahead and order the 360 disc version. That leaves the disc exclusives of Valkyria Chronicles and Cross Edge. I'll definitely be keeping both, but it looks like they'll be really lonely by themselves on my PS3 shelf for the foreseeable time to come. As for downloadable games: It's possible to track down PS1 disc copies of Castlevania Chronicles and R-Type Delta. It's possible to download Diner Dash on the PS3. There are also alternatives for Q*Bert, Mortal Kombat II, and Zen Pinball. But games like Blast Factor, Super Stardust HD, Gravity Crash, and Tank Battles were PS3 exclusive. At least I have Castlevania Chronicles and R-Type Delta on my PSP memory stick. Fate/Unlimited Codes is still on the memory stick too. So, that's it. Wake me when there are some PS3 exclusive JRPGs (especially turn based tactical) or SHMUPS. If Dynasty Warriors: Fist of the North Star hits the PS3 or if there's a Macross Ultimate Frontier style game for the system, then that might be interesting as well. But I think I'm basically done. Let's see if I flip-flop again.
Jess Ragan
Yeah, I just don't have much use for the Playstation 3 myself. It's a competent system, and I'm sure I'd enjoy it if it was the only one I had. However, the Xbox 360 does practically everything better, or at least more intuitively. The only use I get out of the PS3 these days is as a Blu-Ray player, or if I feel like torturing myself with Cross Edge.
