Red 5
Admited 360 fanboy. Bought it at launch and love the hell out of it. Bought Wii at launch too because I am a sucker for Zelda. I never had a reason to get a PS3, and I still don't think I do. I am interested in Uncharted I supposed, but God of War and any ICO, Shadow of the Colossus game will get me. Best Buy is selling the system for $299.99 and it comes with Little Big Planet and Ratchet and Clank. I sell those games immediately and probably knock another $80 off the price. That gets me to 229.99. Sounds like a deal to me!
the.golden.ax
Is that a door buster deal? The God of War collection looks good to me, since I didn't play 2 and I've wanted the PS3 mainly to play PS2 with the nice wireless (they dropped the ball on PS2 support, giving me less reason to want one). CGQuarterly
It probably sounds dumb but the dropping of PS2 support was kind of a deal breaker for me, too. If I ever decided that I really needed a PS3, I would look for a 60GB on the used market just so I could have the backwards compatibility. +remowilliams
I would have bought a PS3 just to play the two Uncharted games.
DaytonaUSA
I would have bought a PS3 for just Demon's Souls.
phaxda
Doesn't sound dumb to me. I have no interest in the PS3, but am always running at least a generation behind and the lack of backward compatibility is a dealbreaker for me as well. Heck, one of the things I do most on my Wii is play Gamecube games! It probably sounds dumb but the dropping of PS2 support was kind of a deal breaker for me, too. If I ever decided that I really needed a PS3, I would look for a 60GB on the used market just so I could have the backwards compatibility. +remowilliams
Heck, one of the things I do most on my Wii is play Gamecube games! Everyone who plays games on the Wii is essentially playing Gamecube games. But, as far as BC goes I think I would have significantly less of a warm fuzzy about my PS3 if it wasn't a launch system with full backwards compatibility... Red 5
Not "officially" a door buster sale. They say it's available Friday and Saturday. I don't plan on getting there too early. I will go, and if they have one, I will buy one. (Then immediately sell the games it comes with on Ebay...) No BC does suck. And I know there are only 3 or 4 exclusive games I give a crap about, but this is probably the best deal to get for a long time. If I get $40 a game, that means the price of the PS3 would be $219.99 and that seems too good to pass up. God of War 3 will push me over the edge anyway so I might as well get on board now. I have to admit that anything that is released for 360 and PS3 I will still get for the 360. I love the achievements too much. It was simply brilliant by the Xbox team. There is nothing more fun than playing a game and getting that little pop up saying you got some points. Don't know why.
the.golden.ax
I found some guaranteed to work 60gb refurbs from a big seller for $259 on eBay. That sounds dandy to me. AX
Seob
why is everybody complaining about the backward compatibility? I have a 60gb with bc, but i only used it once. I have a ps2 that is hooked up upstairs, so if i want to play ps2, i just turn the ps2 on. U still have to buy a memorycard adapter if you want to transfer data from your ps2 memorycard to the ps3. I would say Uncharted is THE reason to buy a ps3.
the.golden.ax
My main reason to want a PS3 is to play PS2 on a system with Sony wireless controllers. Secondarily, I'd like to watch Netflix on a system able to connect to the Internet and browse to netflix.com where I can add to my Que without getting off my asterisks. BTW, before anyone says it... I don't like 360 media center. AX
xenomorpher
I really love the BC. The only bummer is that some cheat systems don't work (I was an avid user of those before). A few reasons why I love the BC are because the smoothing option, I can play on my widescreen monitor, wireless controllers (and I don't need a multi-tap), and a biggy is the virtual memory cards. I eventually need to get the memory card adapter so I can back up my stuff. I tried Little Big Planet via a demo on my PSP and I really loved it. I recommend giving it a shot on the PS3 if you like 2d games and creating your own levels and just look into other games that the system has to offer if you haven't already. I like the media capabilities way more than the 360's when it comes to downloads and I put a lot of shows and movies on my hard drive, which I'll upgrade to 500GB eventually. Atariboy
why is everybody complaining about the backward compatibility? I have a 60gb with bc, but i only used it once. I have a ps2 that is hooked up upstairs, so if i want to play ps2, i just turn the ps2 on. U still have to buy a memorycard adapter if you want to transfer data from your ps2 memorycard to the ps3. I had several reasons for wanting to get one with PS2 compatibility. For starters, PS2 memory cards are expensive. After getting a 80 or 90 game collection of PS2 titles, even two memory cards weren't enough and I was constantly having to switch cards and delete saves to make room for something new. Having PS2 saves reside on a hard drive seemed like an attractive option. Secondly, it's nice to know you have a backup if your PS2 dies. Plus, I always find it interesting checking out the capabilities of my consoles, including their BC capabilities (Despite never having used it much besides on my GBA and 7800). So it would've been entertaining even if I never used it beyond to initially check it out. Also, as mentioned, the ability to use Sony's wireless PS3 controllers was a plus. I was never pleased with the Logitech controllers, and at the time, the Katana officially licensed controllers for the PS2 weren't on the market. Also, many of my PS2 titles look awful on a hdtv, so I was never going to move my PS2 over to it full time and have most of my games look horrible compared to a CRT. As a result, I wasn't able to utilize things like 16:9 modes and progressive scan in the games that supported it. The PS3 would've been a great solution if I could've played select PS2 titles on it using the capabilities some of my games had that I had missed out on. Combined with the PS3's upscaling, it could've made those titles look decent on a HDTV. Also, I like to use a steering wheel on some PS2 racing titles. My PS3 is hooked up to a hdtv on a desk that was ideal for mounting the wheel on it when I wanted to race. But the PS2 is under a CRT elsewhere and has to be moved to the desk and hooked up to the HDTV everytime I want to do this (Which isn't often due to the hassle). If my PS3 could've played PS2 racing games, I could've just kept the wheel always plugged into my PS3 and saved the hassle of moving the PS2 around for a few games. I just missed out on BC PS3's a year ago when I purchased a console. As it turns out, BC had tons of problems anyways so I don't really mind that I missed out on it. I've seen many complaints such as incorrect aspect ratios when you set the PS3 to upscale and other issues, so I'd of just been outputting them at 480i/480p anyways and not have gained anything in the end. cimerians
Who in their sane mind uses wired controllers on a PS2? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001VNNE8?ie=UTF8&tag=atariage&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B0001VNNE8 I have a 60gb model and I still have my slim PS2 hooked up right next to my PS3. Why? because: - The slim PS2 is VERY portable. It fits anywhere. I can move it around the house without a problem. - Logitech controllers. See above. - Compatability. (Not all games work on the PS3) - Pelican Codebreaker. Yes I'm a cheater and proud of it. - Modding. (I haven't done it to my slim yet) So...for me there is little reason to want BC on a PS3 other than maybe upscaling. (some PS2 games actually do look better on a PS3) That shouldnt be a selling point for buying the system though, silly.
Atariboy
I never liked Logitech's wireless controller, these are the way to go in my opinion. Sadly though, none of them work in a PSOne (Bought two thinking I'd convert both consoles to wireless). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YJCANM?ie=UTF8&tag=atariage&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000YJCANM Wish this company had made a Xbox version. Fell in love with wireless controllers with the 360 after trying out the wireless one included with the console (I planned to stick with wired controllers and even bought one when I purchased my 360). Since then, I've converted all of my consoles from the past two generations to wireless except the Xbox (Not about to pay the expensive price for a used Logitech co ntroller when I never liked their PS2 efforts). Jess Ragan
You're going to get a killer deal on two games and you're going to SELL them? C'mon! At least give them a chance first... Ratchet and Clank is a preemo series that ranks up there as the best you'll find on a Playstation system.

And on the 14th day God created GameFly and it was good. I get three games out at a time for $240 a year. That's the low low price of just 4 new games kiddies! I can play them... later... right now I am playing COD MW2, Assassin's Creed 2 and Borderlands. Up next is Left 4 Dead 2. (Those four games retail would = what I paid for my GameFly subscription for the entire year.) Playing 3 games at a time is enough for me. I think this deal might be better since I am just selling the games on Ebay anyway. Just want the system. 5.5 hours until I go! GameStop opens at 6am tomorrow. Hope I get one... rpgfaker
I thought like a few people on this subject, I was on the fence with my "Oh my PS2 is this and my PS2 is that" arguments and after buying a PS3 and trying it I can only say FUCK the PS2 I'm not missing it one bit. Red 5
Got the GameStop deal. Little Big Planet and God of War collection going up on Ebay later today to make back some $.
